Next to our beloved KG, Joe Mauer might be the biggest "Golden Boy" Minnesota sports has ever seen. So where does the Hometown Hero with one of the "best swings in baseball" go to get his grub on? (Photo courtesy of Minnesota Twins)

Mauer's Faves

  1. 1 4.5 Star Rating: Recommended Mancini's Char House

Ah, yes. One of the most St. Paul-iest spots in all of St. Paul, Mancini’s is an old-school chops house focused on the big, bold and bawdy. On any given night there’s great entertainment, whether it’s a lounge singer or karaoke. But mostly this family-owned joint is dripping with old-school kitsch and charm, making one of Mauer’s hometown faves.

  2. 2 4 Star Rating: Recommended Jimmy John's

For a quick sub on the run, Mauer chooses Jimmy John’s. Not local, but this local boy is all about loading up on carbs and protein--and doing it fast. Plus, they’re sort of on every corner.

  3. 3 4 Star Rating: Recommended Davanni's Pizza & Hot Hoagies

While Davanni’s is also a favorite among lovers of thin-sliced pizza, Mauer heads here for one of this local restaurant’s beloved hot hoagies, including 16 different varieties, nearly all of which are smothered in Davanni’s signature marinara sauce.

  4. 4 4 Star Rating: Recommended Cossetta Italian Market

211 Seventh St W, St Paul, MN 55102 (map)

This St. Paul mainstay is home to giant slices, raved-about lasagna and hearty helpings of homemade Italian fare. It’s where Mauer goes for his favorite slice of pepperoni and St. Pauly Italian charm.

  5. 5 4.5 Star Rating: Recommended Nook

492 Hamline Ave S, St Paul, MN 55116 (map)

While football-turned-baseball hero Mauer might not regularly show up here with his Twins buddies, you can bet you’ll get a Mauer eyeful at this little St. Paul hamburger joint dedicated to Mauer’s high school, Cretin-Durham Hall.

  6. 6 4 Star Rating: Recommended Casper Runyon's Shamrocks

995 Seventh St W, St Paul, MN 55102 (map)

This sports joint—also run by guys who own the Nook—is a favorite among Twins players and fans for its giant, juicy burgers and allegiance to hometown teams. Mauer’s teammates are known to frequent there, and the supposedly shy Mauer has been spotted with them on more than a few occasions.
