Hudson >Special Children Ctr
Excellent caring therapists, and terrific family connections. This is my first message on here. My daughter has profound cognitive and physical disabilities. We were referred to the center when she was three (She is now 7). I have become uber close with the staff at the center. I feel that they are like family. They truly care deeply about each child and their progress I am amazed each week at the committment and the creative ways that they learn to work with each child. They have the newest and best therapies for children with some of the most unique difficulties. I acknowledge that there are frustrating moments with the billing area that have trouble getting prior authorizations and I too have been bitten by the bill coming because authorizations were not obtained appropriately. I have been able to overlook the administrative issues because the staff are so supportive. Even better, I have connected with a "second family" of other parents and we constantly check-in with one another and support each other if one of us lands in the hospital. It's a very supportive environment for any family with a child with special needs. You will meet and make friends for life. Honestly!
Don't let the back office get in the way .....
Special Children Center has provided my child with excellent therapies for just over 12 months. SCC is much more than a place for therapy. I have yet to encounter anything but exceptional therapists. Sometimes the office staff can be brisk, but I understand the difficult job they are performing every day. And they have cared very much about my child as an individual person - encouraging those around him to make decisions on what is best for Him. I just cannot imagine a better place for a child with special needs - great or small! And we must also not forget that SCC is a non-profit. And since the state did not consider my child's needs (they refused him services because he didn't test in the lowest 10 percent for his age group) I have had to fight the insurance battle - ugh!
Since beginning therapy, my child has been diagnosed (by an Allergist) with allergies to Soy, Wheat, Dairy, and Eggs - and also has been dx as PDD-NOS/high functioning. With continued therapy at SCC I am confident that he will attend a typical public school for kindergarten.
I encourage any parent who evens suspects slightly that their child may need help with skills (talking, walking, community play, picky eating, sensory defensiveness, etc) to contact the Special Children Center for an evaluation at the very least - it is the very best decision we could have made for our child as well as our family!
And please let us all remember that insurance companies are everywhere and any place that provides services will need to fight the insurance battle - to base care decisions on insurance alone is a very difficult decision. Let's all work towards the common good - support Nationalized Health Care - Care for Every American!
Just know that once you begin therapy at SCC your life and the life of your child WILL improve immensely!
Billing and insurance nightmare. Special Childrens has a very good building and some good therapists, but the billing deptment is notoriously late and has fallen behind with thier prior auth. and let billing lag. If you have time to supervise all thier billing and deal with insurance compainies yourself then this is a feel good place that gives average pt ot for special needs children.
