Multiplex and megaplex theater chain shows mainstream movies in a plush setting.. In Short
In 1920, Edward Durwood opened a single-screen picture house in Kansas City, Mo. Over the next 40 years, his company went on to pioneer the use of four- and six-screen theaters. In 1969, the company incorporated as American Multi-Cinema Inc. in honor of its signature multiplexes. Now, the company is known for theaters with 14 or more screens, as well as innovations such as armrests with built-in cup holders, stadium seating with LoveSeats, ATM-style ticketing and online ticket purchasing.

Got a parka?. Prior to visiting the Har Mar AMC this evening, I read the 2 reviews that were already posted here and figured we had a 50/50 chance of enjoying a nice movie at the local theater. On the return drive from the movie theater, the discussion in the car was not about the movie (unfortunately), but about the theater and how we just spent $20.00 for a bad trip to the movie theater. It was so cold in the theater (screen #3) that we sat through the entire movie in our jackets, gloves and scarves. Ticket prices are $8.50/adult, comparable to most theaters, however, most theaters turn the heat on. In addition, the seats are uncomfortable. I will not be visiting this theater again, just thought I'd warn the rest of you that are trying to decide to go here or not. I suggest not.

User review by mariehouse. Yeah we all know that Har Mar is a "classic" neighborhood cinema- yes it's bad sound, no it's not "stadium" seating... and yes, even the heat goes out and you have to sit and watch the film with your hat, gloves, and coat on... this is cinema for the people ! Thank

goodness it hasn't become a cineplex with a Coldstone ice cream in it!

poor sound kills a movie. On several occasions, I and others in the AMC Harmar Theaters have been subjected to audio quality so bad as to destroy any decent movie experience. Apparantly, most movie goers don't care, which I find tragically sad. I can manage to curb my anger until the sound quality dips below that of an MP3 compressed recording. Also apparant is the fact that AMC Harmar Theaters don't care much about quality either. As long as too many of us don't ask for our money back, the theater management will let the bottom line guide their conscience. Quality is a foreign word to them
