Would rather watch at home if not for the kids.. It's true. I have seen it. Indian food sauce all over the seat. If you're not careful, you will get it on your butt. Place is rather old and still smells after remodelling. I wish the management could do something about that stench. It is really strong for first-timer.
A great budget theater!. Who wants to pay $9 for a movie when you can wait and get it for $3! Why line the pockets of the liberal media elite when you can get by for less. Unless your conversation next week depends on having seen the latest movie or maybe being first to see a film at the office or among your friends is important then wait and see it here.
Great place to go for a cheap movie. This place is great! Hey, can you really beat a $2 Matinee or $3 for after 6pm? It's not the Taj Mahal, but it's a decent place with decent movies and a decent price. And to the person talking about gravy...--Com'on! Seriously! The new owners seem to have done a nice job with the place. It also hasn't been overcrowded when I've gone, which is nice. And their new wesite is ww w .brookdalecinemas. com which shows all the current movies playing.
Where is the movie listings?. What happen to the movie listings for Brookdale 8 Cinemas? Did someone decide to take it down? Pls help. Thanks,
Cheap theater...you get what you pay for..
They are NOT showing "only" Indian (Bollywood) movies now - they are showing Bollywood movies on the weekends in addition to normal discount-theater movies. Yes, they HAVE been sold to new "Indian-friendly" owners, but intend to keep showing normal discount-theater movies since the Bollywood community in the Twin Cities can't support an Indian-only theater. Their website (brookdale8cinemas) is run by a 3rd party who lists ONLY the Bollywood movies showing there. You currently have to either actually go to the theater to find out other movie times or call their phone number for a recording of movie times. No website yet...but they say "they're working on it". Price went up to $3 after 6pm too...still $2 before 6pm though.
The theaters themselves haven't been upgraded since the place was built in the 80's and it shows. The audience is also largely made up of kids who should be at home with a babysitter instead of at the theater with their parents - or worse, alone. Kids movies are just that...lots of loud, unruly kids. Adult movies are better since the kids would be bored in them...but some of the adults there still think they have the right to talk on their cell phones or to each other during the movie. (You have to take into account the socio-economic status of the neighborhood...)
Since the sale though, the place seems a bit more professional...lots more families now than there used to be...
Terrible experience - do not go!. The theater smelled like urine, so we left before the movie even started, but the smarty teenage so-called "manager" girl refused to give us our money back, "generously "offering two free passes instead. Like I'd ever come back to this dump. They ripped me off for $4. All in all a horrible experience. Don't go. Rent a movie or go to a real theater instead. They should really be ashamed of themselves for such appaling conditions and terrible customer service.
Classic 1970s-era movie house shows second-run films in me-decade style, and for cheap..
In Short
It's dark and boxy, with an unadorned Nixon-era institutional architectural style that's perhaps rarer these days than the vaudeville baroque of the '20s and '30s. The main auditorium is gigantic by discount theater standards, with comfortable, if mildly cramped, seats and great sightlines. While the basic integrity of what was once one of the Twin Cities' largest theaters has been maintained, it's been upgraded for Dolby digital sound.
A good deal a fun night.. There is nothing better than a cheap movie and a good selection. Brookdale * discount theatre is a blessing. You get to see hit movies for mere dollars. Tuesday night's 1.00 films will not lighten your pocket book, but lighten the load of being dissapointed in seeing a bad film. The theater manages to show an eclectic mix of films at once. It is great for the mood you are in. Parking is free and ample. The concessions are the best I have had in recent memory.
