Minnesota's crown jewel of movie theaters is the place for independent, foreign films and re-released classics..
In Short
The rooftop moniker and glittering marquee are Uptown neighborhood emblems. Kiwi-green walls, a cramped concession stand and the three-stall-only ladies' room show the theater's
age. But with the biggest screen in town, a great balcony and a prime Hennepin-Lagoon location, all is forgiven. Regional exclusives are booked here, so getting in can be a long process, especially on weekends.…
Fun. The seats poke you in the butt, however, the theater has a iant screen and a groovy retro feel.
Go for the film, not the theater. It's not great, but at least they show good films. It could use an update, especially the seats. Usually a film will play here for about 6 days and then move over to the Lagoon. I wish we had a more modern, comfortable Landmark Theatre here, but we don't...except for the Lagoon...so, support and see the films, not the surroundings...…
Best Theatre in Minneapolis.
Yes, it's a little run down, we've all ripped a pair of pants on the balcony seats, and the leg room can suck sometimes (that's what the bars are for, resting your feet on). Despite all these things,
this is my theatre of choice. The staff is great, you can talk to them about their movies and they're not movie snobs or full of themselves.
I know that they have been petitioning their owner to fix things for 6 months or so, and haven't been getting any responce. It's not the theatre's fault that it's a little run down, it's the owner's. I fully support this theatre, and if you want to see something beautiful, look for old pictures of it during it's opening, way back. Absolutely beautiful stuff.
I also highly reccomend the midnight movies... They're always a blast.…
