Margaritas, old-school flicks and cheap matinees.. Margaritas, old-school flicks and cheap matinees are the norm at this renovated theater. On the outside, the Parkway Theater boasts art-deco charm, the result of a 2006 renovation that unearthed the big, blocky, cursive signage from under an old, crumbling façade. And inside, that same renovation has turned the once-adult movie house into a charming, hip, modern and intimate single theater showcasing offbeat films and cult classics as well as the latest blockbusters. The nearly 80-year-old theater now has 400 seats, including moveable love seats that instantly turn a trip to the movies into a social gathering for film buffs. The cleaned up balcony instantly reveals its original allure as a Twin Cities destination spot for decades. And the addition of Mexican beer, margaritas and wine--served at all R-rated flicks and only to those with valid ID--makes it a new destination spot for movie lovers looking for cool flicks, cold drinks and a hot date night.
great neighborhood theatre.
I love this theatre because you can see all those old movie classics we only saw on tv as kids on the big screen. Comedies, film noir, current documentaries, family films on saturday mornings, its great. For the adults you can even purchase a margarita, beer or cocktail to bring into the show with you! even enjoy a
taco at pepitos before the show. The building does need some love, but they are slowly working on it to bring it back to its former glory. Oh, did I mention the popcorn?
Best Popcorn in Town!!!. Yes, I'm a sucker for real butter. I can't help it! And Parkway Theatre indulges me. The theatre itself could use a bit of a facelift (especially the less than desirable bathrooms), but the films they screen and the inexpensive concessions almost make up for the lack of fresh paint. Actually, the atmosphere is perfect for many of the films they've shown: Amores Perros, The Golden Bowl, etc. Good place to see a dark, off-center film.
The Anti-Mega Theatre. If you are looking to escape the mega multi-plex mall theatre, give the Parkway a try. For $7.75 I got popcorn (with real butter), a large drink and admission to a really good movie. Sure the theatre is a little run down and the bathrooms are painted a brown color that bathrooms should never be painted, but the overall experience put a smile on my face. The staff is super friendly and the place screams casual-cool. I feel hipper for having experienced the Parkway.
I LOVE this theater!!!!.
I decided that today I would write a love note about this theater. The management at the Parkway choses top-notch films that are well worth your $6.00. (I haven't been disappointed yet) You won't see a run-of-the-mill, Hollywood movie here...only jems... films that will stay with you for days.
If you aren't worried about sitting in a REAL theater, in REAL theater chairs that, yes, leave a bit to be desired in the comfy dept, and eating REAL, REAL good popcorn w/ butter at REAListic prices, this is the theater for you.
Plus, I can't bear another film with Tom Cruise in it!
