Editorial Review. One of the oldest bars in Cedar-Riverside, this is still a popular spot for fast-rising indie and alt rockers.

$400,000 Bar, not bicycle friendly. I'd love to come to the 400 Bar more often for concerts, but they've got ridiculous policies banning bike bags and backpacks, without offering a coat check. WHY? It's a policy UNLIKE EVERY OTHER VENUE in town. As my friend Hurl notes: "They have a posturing rock star attitude, not allowing messenger bags or backpacks of any kind, and yet they don't offer a coat check. Apparently they expect you to drive a car. But what would you expect from a bar that charges $4 for a pint of domestic beer?" Amen.

johnsteed. I wish I was pretentious enough to put this place down, with juvenile and selfish opinions that aren't even my own. But, alas it is merely an average music club not unlike hundreds of music clubs around the country.

Locked in. One of the only things that brings the 400 Club down is that there is no food except for a nasty vending machine with peanuts in it from 1984. There is no re-entry once you are in you are IN. The bands rock. The atmosphere is excellent. Sometimes a girl just needs some popcorn or pretzles with her bands and beer.

The $400 dollar$ bar. is what my friends and I call it. If my friends bands are playing, I'll go out to support them, but I refuse to pay the inflated drink prices. For the price of a Summit I could buy a 6-pack. And why no cheap options or specials at all EVER? Even the most heinous cheap beer is $4 or more here. And it's true what they say about the staff's attitude. I just always assume they must not really need my tips.

o/" How does it feel? o/". I am just back from the 400 Bar and the 16th Annual Bob Dylan Sound Alike Contest. Oh, man, what an experience - I had the time of my life! I was one of the many profoundly amateur contestants, and I must say, first and foremost, that I was very impressed with how supportive the staff was...it would have been so easy to dismiss me in all my amateurness, either subvertly or overtly, but MC Cooker John was so unpretentious and utterly cool - he really put me at ease. Cooker John alone was well worth the cover. (Wow and wow, what a performer.) The contest could have been terrifying, but instead, it was an incredible blast.

Yep, the drinks were too expensive. Yep, the bar was understaffed. And YEP, I will be back next year for the 17th Annual Bob Dylan Sound Alike Contest!!
