Erected on the site of the '70s-era St. Paul Civic Center, Xcel's amenities fit its high-tech design and name: a 360-degree Surroundvision scoreboard, four 9-by-16-foot video screens, 30,000 pounds of speakers and dozens of swanky box suites with online access. Not just a temple for whooping hockey fans, the arena is attracting big-ticket touring musical acts.

Parking:
Beneath the center are 430 parking spaces (enter on westbound Kellogg Boulevard); across the street is a skyway-connected 1,730-space ramp (enter on eastbound Kellogg).
Know Before You Go:
Xcel has 29 permanent and 20 portable food vendors serving standard arena fare, plus the Iron Range Grill and upscale HeadWaters Restaurant.
The Extras:
With the adjoining Touchstone Energy Place and Roy Wilkins Auditorium, the RiverCentre complex bustles with expositions and other activities.
