This South Minneapolis pub used to be just another scruffy hole-in-the-wall bar. But Steve Miller and Andrea Lefavore took over the place in May 2000, gave it a complete overhaul. Gourmet burgers, hoagies and fried finger foods are available daily until midnight. Locals come to grab a La-Z-Boy or take a seat on a secondhand couch before having at the two Atari 2600 game systems with a library of more than 75 game cartridges.

The ExtrasIf the games don't bring back memories, the jukebox stocked with retro hits and local legends will. If your Frogger skills are embarrassingly rusty, you can play the trivia game You Don't Know Jack on a big-screen TV or pass the time with pool, darts or board games.
What to DrinkThe house microbrew--the smooth and malty Chatterbox Lager--outsells everything else in the joint.

The Chatterbox get's voted "Best Bar and Grill " every year!! They were named One of the best Bars in America and one of "America's Top 25 Best kept Secrets". They get this by being unique, consistent and good at what they do. The staff is very friendly and colorful. The food is gourmet bar food made on from scratch breads and mind blowingly flavorful sauces. The grill cheese is made on handmade foccacia, with cilantro pumpkinseed pesto, fresh tomatoes, stringy smoked cheeses and is great when they have the fresh tomato dill soup!!!! Mmmmmm... I can't speak for the other comments, I am sure that the staff is human and a new cook can happen, but year over year they get awards for being consistently good!

My first time to the Chatterbox in South Minneapolis was a great experience. I loved the fun atmosphere and hole-in-the-wall ambiance. Food was decent with a good selection of micro-brews. I had blown off the bad customer service, thinking it was just our server maybe having a bad night. I have since been there 4 or 5 times, and have had ridiculously horrible service every single time. Bar staff is snotty and service is slow. I have vowed to never return again....
Pros: beer selection (chit chat ale), games, low lighting
Cons: terrible service
