In Short – This South Minneapolis pub used to be just another scruffy hole-in-the-wall bar. But Steve Miller and Andrea Lefavore took over the place in May 2000, gave it a complete overhaul. Gourmet burgers, hoagies and fried finger foods are available daily until midnight. Locals come to grab a La-Z-Boy or take a seat on a secondhand couch before having at the two Atari 2600 game systems with a library of more than 75 game cartridges.
If it wasn't for the food...

Ok, the purpose of this review is to somehow get the people who run the Chatterbox to change their menu! I live within walking distance of the Highland location. I want to love the Chatterbox. I want to WANT to go to the Chatterbox. But I don't. Why? The food! After giving it a shot many, many times I have had enough. It all tastes the same. The menu looks great but after few visits you'll wise up. Not sure what it is - some herb or spice they put in everything or what. But every dish has the same overriding flavor. It's great for drinks after you've had a bite somewhere else. But I walk past it thinking I wish I could enjoy a meal with my beer. And I'm not the only one in the hood that thinks this. The consensus is overwhelming. I'm not sure about the food at the other locations but hopefully it's not as bad as Highland Chatterbox.
Best Neighborhood Bar in Town
by jayleck at Citysearch
I've been to Chatterbox almost every week for the past four months. After having been to Chatterbox, my friends and I can't go to any other bar. The atmosphere is so relaxed; great place to talk, drink, and play Boggle. They brew their own beer and make their own great tasting sodas (ask for a Pepsi and they give you their version of it.) My brother's favorite is an easy lager though a Belgian white is good as well. Fries come with an array of different sauces. The staff is great; making us feel like regulars after the second or third week of going. This place is just the best hang out spot; so much that we can't go anywhere else.
- Pros: Beer is great, atmosphere is wonderful, games to play
One of the "Best bars in America"
by izziemae at Citysearch
The Chatterbox get's voted "Best Bar and Grill " every year!! They were named One of the best Bars in America and one of "America's Top 25 Best kept Secrets". They get this by being unique, consistent and good at what they do. The staff is very friendly and colorful. The food is gourmet bar food made on from scratch breads and mind blowingly flavorful sauces. The grill cheese is made on handmade foccacia, with cilantro pumpkinseed pesto, fresh tomatoes, stringy smoked cheeses and is great when they have the fresh tomato dill soup!!!! Mmmmmm... I can't speak for the other comments, I am sure that the staff is human and a new cook can happen, but year over year they get awards for being consistently good!
- Pros: Pizzas, Brew Pub, Staff, Wine list, Happy Hour, Music
- Cons: Karoke (I don't sing well ;)
The Details on Chatterbox
What to Drink:
The house microbrew--the smooth and malty Chatterbox Lager--outsells everything else in the joint.
The Extras:
If the games don't bring back memories, the jukebox stocked with retro hits and local legends will. If your Frogger skills are embarrassingly rusty, you can play the trivia game You Don't Know Jack on a big-screen TV or pass the time with pool, darts or board games.
When to Go:
Monday nights are for Chatterbox Karaoke, which includes classics Journey and 80s new-wave hits that go perfectly with the old-school Atari and Nintendo games going on nearby. Amateurs are always welcome, and those with stage fright can enjoy some of the pros belting out their favorites, from Fleetwood Mac to Tenacious D.
