why?. I never write reviews but feel morally compelled to share with the world my experience at the Chatterbox to prevent future suffering. Service: we were seated by a relatively friendly guy who immediately took our drink order- so far so good. guy leaves and proceeds to walk aimlessly around the nearly empty restaurant. ten minutes pass with no drinks and we are greeted by a different dude who tells us he's "terrible at his job". no big deal. guy takes our order and we are soon greeted by two other employees for no apparent reason. food is delivered by yet another employee who doesn't have my salad. I inform him of this and he says, "really?" salad is delivered by guy who is terrible at his job and he says, "I suck"

food: I ordered the grilled cheese with tomato dill soup. I don't understand how anyone can mess up a grilled cheese (was the first meal I learned how to prepare myself) but the chatterbox did it brilliantly. the focaccia bread was soft, as in not grilled, and the cheese is sort of melted. it was as if they put crappy colby cheese in between two pieces of bread and microwaved it. The soup was cold (I am well under 65 years old)and there was so much dill dumped in that I had to chew it.

atmosphere: Steve Miller's 'The Joker' was playing, mocking and laughing at me

do not eat the food here, don't let your children eat the food. please stay away

If it wasn't for the food.... Ok, the purpose of this review is to somehow get the people who run the Chatterbox to change their menu! I live within walking distance of the Highland location. I want to love the Chatterbox. I want to WANT to go to the Chatterbox. But I don't. Why? The food! After giving it a shot many, many times I have had enough. It all tastes the same. The menu looks great but after few visits you'll wise up. Not sure what it is - some herb or spice they put in everything or what. But every dish has the same overriding flavor. It's great for drinks after you've had a bite somewhere else. But I walk past it thinking I wish I could enjoy a meal with my beer. And I'm not the only one in the hood that thinks this. The consensus is overwhelming. I'm not sure about the food at the other locations but hopefully it's not as bad as Highland Chatterbox.

Best Neighborhood Bar in Town. I've been to Chatterbox almost every week for the past four months. After having been to Chatterbox, my friends and I can't go to any other bar. The atmosphere is so relaxed; great place to talk, drink, and play Boggle. They brew their own beer and make their own great tasting sodas (ask for a Pepsi and they give you their version of it.) My brother's favorite is an easy lager though a Belgian white is good as well. Fries come with an array of different sauces. The staff is great; making us feel like regulars after the second or third week of going. This place is just the best hang out spot; so much that we can't go anywhere else.

One of the "Best bars in America". The Chatterbox get's voted "Best Bar and Grill " every year!! They were named One of the best Bars in America and one of "America's Top 25 Best kept Secrets". They get this by being unique, consistent and good at what they do. The staff is very friendly and colorful. The food is gourmet bar food made on from scratch breads and mind blowingly flavorful sauces. The grill cheese is made on handmade foccacia, with cilantro pumpkinseed pesto, fresh tomatoes, stringy smoked cheeses and is great when they have the fresh tomato dill soup!!!! Mmmmmm... I can't speak for the other comments, I am sure that the staff is human and a new cook can happen, but year over year they get awards for being consistently good!

Don't bother. My first time to the Chatterbox in South Minneapolis was a great experience. I loved the fun atmosphere and hole-in-the-wall ambiance. Food was decent with a good selection of micro-brews. I had blown off the bad customer service, thinking it was just our server maybe having a bad night. I have since been there 4 or 5 times, and have had ridiculously horrible service every single time. Bar staff is snotty and service is slow. I have vowed to never return again....
