This downtown Minneapolis farmers market is overflowing with beautiful fresh flowers and locally grown fruits and veggies..
In Short
For downtown Minneapolis workers, there's nothing more convenient and Mary Tyler Moore-esque than when the flowers and produce land on Nicollet Mall in the spring and summer. Buckets of gorgeous bouquets stand proudly alongside bins of fresh, Minnesota-grown green beans, broccoli, beets, potatoes, apples and more. Every Thursday you can easily pick up ingredients for a weekend's worth of meals, and a few fresh daisies and sweet-smelling lilies to keep the home happy as well.
Thursday Respite....
The Nicollet Farmer's market is a great mid-day get away downtown on Thursdays...great produce and even better flowers and music. Last time I was down there, the Native American band playing outside of Neiman Marcus was fantstic (I've also seen them playing at the Lyndale market as well on saturdays.)
If you work downtown and your wife or girlfriend doesn't get fresh flowers on Thursdays during the months the market is going on, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Farmers Market or Farmer's Market?. After reading the wonderful reviews here about the Farmers Market, we decided to visit it while in town this weekend. According to the review, it should have been happening from 8am - 3pm, and it was definately in the month range May-Oct. There turned out to be ONE table setup with Farmers produce - which wasn't all that fresh or interesting. There was absolutely nothing else! Perhaps Thursday is the day to go, but I would avoid trying on a Saturday.
Astounding!. I love to go the Nicollet Mall Farmer's Market - I can pick up all the fruit and veggies I need plus some beautiful flowers to boot! Soak in the culture around you and it makes for a great day! Try it and you will be back each week!
