Editorial Review for Highlander Pub and Restaurant – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
This small, dark and masculine pub at Rush Creek Golf Club serves dinner daily, but uses an expansive banquet room for their equally large Sunday brunch. Their inventive turns on staple dishes--smoked duck quesadillas, pretzel-crusted walleye pike--have raised alarms with the clientele's classic palettes but keeps the foodies interested. Brunch has a theme every month, but always feature filet mignon and a create-your-own omelet station, with ingredients like wild rice, salmon and sun-dried tomatoes.

Went for first time after reading good reviews. Food was good but service was slow. A wedding reception seemed to absorb the wait staff. Charlie's Exceptional Steak entree and chili were excellent. Salads were tasty also. However, entrees arrived 3 minutes after salads / soups; hadn't finished the salads yet. Tap beers were not available due to broken CO2 system. Ran out of Newcastle bottled beer. Second brandy and soda took 25 minutes. Took a long time to get the check. Server apologized frequently for poor service. Poor lighting on patio after sunset. We were told light bulbs were burnt out; had to request candles. Our impression was that, with the exception of the kitchen, the restaurant was poorly managed. It is a great setting but improvements are badly needed in the area of service if they expect to gain and retain customers.
Pros: Food
Cons: Service

The Highlander patio is the best-kept secret of Maple Grove dining. Forget the overcrowded "restaurant row" and sit outside with a glass of wine and enjoy the sunset and GREAT FOOD. I've had several entrees, and you can't go wrong with the steaks, walleye, or great burgers!
Pros: Great food, ambience, and friendly waitstaff.
Cons: A little off the beaten path, but worth the drive!
