What People Are Saying About Everest On Grand
Featured Review

This little space on St. Paul’s elegant Grand Avenue has been transformed into a bustling, bright restaurant serving Nepalese, Tibetan and Indian food. The walls are painted in rich reds and blues, giving it a happy, celebratory vibe. And numerous lantern lights hanging from the ceiling keep it well-lit and welcoming. The restaurant is famous for its momas, but it’s also getting a reputation for its yak. The meat is organic, grass-fed and locally sourced, and comes in curry or choyla dishes that are perfectly spiced to your palate.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- The food here is spicy, and it's meant to be. Most Minnesotans like their spice "mild", which is essentially spice-less. Here you can get a range, from mild, to mild-medium and all the way to super hot. We love us some spicy food, and here even "medium" is good enough for us. In other words, its not "Minnesota medium", It's real, spicy Nepalese medium.
- What to Drink:
- Everest on Grand serves some great wine and beer, including local brews. But if you're going to go the spicy route--and you should--add a mango lassi to the mix, made with fresh mango, yogurt, milk and cardamom to cool the tongue.

This place is in a great location, atmosphere is so so and I really want to like it but it has left me underwhelmed twice now. Service is weak. We were dropped off at our table and ignored until someone stopped by expecting our order. No drinks were initially offered, we has to ask for them first. On the two times I went I had the Tandoor Lamb and Chicken Tikka Masala. Ordered the Lamb medium and it was way too hot for me. Others at are table had medium and it was fine. I ordered the Chicken mild+ which was a good temp. If anything a little too mild. Inconsistent.
The Lamb had promise but the Chicken was weak.
My wife had vegetarian both times and was not impressed each time. I should mention that she does not eat curry.
I'm not planning on returning.

I just read in the Star Tribune that this place got nicked big time by the department of health and safety. This is what the article said about this place. “Cold food in buffet as warm as 64 degrees. Employees rinsed hands without soap or towels. Hand sink not accessible. Employee failed to wash hands while alternating between prepping raw chicken and unloading dishwasher. Employee beverages in kitchen. Mouse droppings in one location. Prep drawer too warm.” I would not eat at this place if I was paid.
Kinda Alright

The service wasn't too bad as opposed to the bad reviews that I've been reading. I went there on a Wednesday night and it was almost full for dinner. I thought the service was pretty good. I thought it was a tad little pricey - $18 for a chai, veggie curry and one naan. But the quantity compensated for the price because it lasted for two meals.
I'm an Indian and the food made me nostalgic. It very much tasted like mom-made food back home. Less oily and you can choose the spice level. I would go there again.
- Cons: Parking
An unexplored jewel sitting out there!!

We were out at Everest on Grand for the first time with family for lunch yesterday. The ambience was simple and elegant. It was our first time though a cousin who was with us was a regular here which really helped in picking the right dishes. We were a bit early and while we waited for the rest of the crew to join, we were trying to get a sense of the place - most guests were Americans which made us wonder whether the taste would be authentic. (Little did we know that the guests there were conossieurs of food from the sub-continent, our mistake) Anyway, the chopped lamb and goat curry were amazing. So were the Momos - both chicken and veg Momos were really nice. The chopped lamb was out of the world - the tangy taste coupled with the marination was very good. One dish which was a big surprise was the Jack Fruit curry. Having its place in my traditional cuisine back in India and knowing how dicey it is to handle this fruit in a curry, I was not very sure how it would turn out but it was just great. We promptly called up a few friends and recommended and would mostly be there within the next month or so.
Rice being charged was a bummer. The Chicken Tikka Masala was a big disappointment too.
- Pros: Friendly staff, authentic food
- Cons: Our jackets picked the aroma of food!!, rice is charged sepa
