In Short – The local regulars have their favorites: carne asada, enchiladas poblanos. Yet those new to this ever-popular cantina can down an entire Corona before getting through the lengthy menu. Specializing in traditional Tex-Mex (quesadillas and fajitas) and authentic Mexican (pork carnitas with tortillas, rice and beans), it's a big draw for suburban families out for cheap, kid-friendly eats. While the budget-conscious, under-30 set order up a Texas margarita and call this place a great Saturday-night date.
Best Mexican Place in the Metro

My friends and I have been going out to El Loro once a week almost for the past year. We have visited tons of mexican places in the metro and El Loro still has the best mex food by far, hands down. I get the enchiladas every time--the food is mild, yet tasty. Cooked and seasoned just right, not too salty. They have spicer items on the menu if this is what you like. But if you like overtly spicy mexican food this probably isn't the place for you--try Chipotle instead!!! Some of us just don't like our mouths to be burnt off everytime we eat
Mexican!! Don't get me wrong, I love Chipotle, but El Loro is a nice change of pace at times.
The chips are the best in the metro--not overtly salty like their competitors. Nice yellow, mild corn chips.
The service however, is hit and miss. Sometimes it is good and prompt, other times, yes as people have said below, the waiters/waitresses just don't seem to care. I have been there over 50 times to witness this as the truth. The FOOD ROCKS though, that is why we go back and the service is "average" at the Savage Loro.
The Savage Loro's service is better than the Burnsville Loro, though. We used to frequent Burnsville's Loro every week and this one waiter knew us and we always ordered the same thing. He was nice and friendly. However, this waiter would always forget part of our order no matter how many times he saw us. However this one time, was the last straw and then we went to the Savage Loro and haven't had this problem since.
This last time we went, he served 3 out of 4 of us our orders. He FORGOT about my friend's order for the next 20 MINUTES and never stopped by the table to check on us after he served those first 3 orders. The three of us had finished eating and my poor friend had to have another waiter bring him his food. They didn't even offer to give us a discount for the wait even though we were regular customers!!! The original waiter didn't even realize what he did and didn't apologize. Yeah, we didn't go back no matter how nice he was. The few times our main waiter was out of town before this happened, we got a different waiter who although got us our food on time, didn't care to fill our bowls with chips and get pop re-fills.
So it really depends on what Loro you go to as to what kind of service you will receive.
This is traditional tex-mex food and it is not "Americanized" like Pablo's in Shakopee. Pablo's mex food is "YUCK" and by far the worst crap I have even eaten. Obviously those who like this place want profusely salty, frozen TV dinner like mex food. This is Pablo's to a "T" and all four diners at my table had to agree. Maybe it was better a year ago but is horrible now.
- Pros: chips and salsa are the bomb, enchiladas are awesome
- Cons: service
good food, bad service

The food there is very good. The service on the other hand is horrible, half the people don't speak english, they charge you 3 dollars for an extra little cup of sour cream,salsa,or guacamole.They act like some one died, and the food gave me the stomach flu.
- Pros: ok food
- Cons: bad service
Burritos Rancheros A++

If you want someone to ask you how you want your meat then you don't want real authentic Mexican food. I don't usually go out for Mexican food since I can get it at my mom's, but when my husband & I want to go out we go to El Loro. I always get the Burritos Rancheros & the Mexican ice cream. The servings are Grande, most times I have left over for lunch the next day.
