Editorial Review for Harvey's Bar & Grill – by Annamarie Cumpston

In Short
Depending on the day, 9-to-5ers or weekend warriors fill the high-top tables or half-booths in the long, hardwood-floored room. The extensive menu goes far beyond typical bar food and offers many pleasing dishes. The huge plate of Harvey's nachos, groaning with toppings, is sure to spoil your need for an entree. Standout burgers include the barbecue bacon cheddar burger and the smoky tasting Harvey burger with portobello mushrooms, provolone cheese and barbecue sauce.

The Extras

Kettle chips on the side of the entrees are fine, but the crunchy fries are worth the extra money.

I'm not one to write a review, but my favorite bar in downtown MInneapolis has gone down the tubes with it's new ownership. It has changed from a great place to hang out to some ritzy wanna be bar. The great drink specials on Friday and Saturday nights...Gone, replaced with a cheap well drink special. Does anyone actually like well liquor? The friendly staff that knows you when you walk in...Gone (most of them anyways). The bar that was always easy to get a drink at...Gone, the bar now has stools lining it making it extremely dificult to get drinks not to mention the tables in the middle of the walk way. The new ownership should be ashamed of what they have done to a downtown favorite. Don't waste your time going there.

Pros: None

Cons: It's lost all of it's appeal.

Leave it to Bootleggers to ruin the greatest bar downtown. They put in a new floor, some flat panel TVs, and a whole lot of douche. The old specials of $2/$3 anything has changed to $2/$3 for domestics and wells - who orders a well? This used to be the only place to go downtown and have a blast for cheap, but now it is just a lame, out of the way bar that offers no benefit to go there. Come back old Harvey's, we miss you!
