Tips for Sanctuary Salonspa

November 27, 2012

Think twice if you're going there for a special event. I chose this salon to do my hair for my wedding because my fiance had given me a gift certificate to Sanctuary for Christmas. It is a very nice salon, and for the most part I was happy with my hair trial a week before my wedding. SO...the day of my wedding I had a 4:00 p.m. appointment (evening wedding) and I go to the reception desk to check in, and the girl told me that I had CANCELLED my appointment and rescheduled for the following WEDNESDAY. Of course I had done no such thing. Why would I do that? It didn't help that the girl at the front desk was rude and arrogant and completely unhelpful. Luckily the person who my stylist was "supposed" to see at that time (because they had booked her with someone else) hadn't shown up yet, so I got in, but I was completely unimpressed with that whole experience.

When I finally got in I asked my stylist what happened and she said that she had noticed on her schedule that they had switched me to Wednesday and she thought that was "weird." Yeah, I'd say it's a little weird when someone changes their wedding to the following Wednesday a week before the big day. I wish she would have followed up and double-checked that.

They do nice work and it's a pretty place, but I wouldn't go to them again if it was for a special event. Too much hassle and stress.

Amazing couples massage!. My boyfriend and I went in for a couples massage.

We were VERY pleased! I had Emily and she knew what she was doing. She worked on me and really focused on what I needed done. I feel so much better now! My boyfriend had Maggie and he was very happy. As someone that works in the industry, I felt that the massage therapists were very knowledgeable and they took the FULL time(an hour) and it was amazing! We will be back! THANK YOU!

A great place to unwind. I received a gift card from my mother in law for my birthday to have a spa day. From the moment I walked in I felt so pampered. They immediately offered to take my coat and got me some delicious Aveda tea. I had a massage and a facial which were amazing and then was offered a free shampoo and style. The scalp massage almost put me to sleep. I left feeling relaxed and rejuvinated. They were so attentive and friendly I would highly recommend this salon.

Sanctuary made my big day really special. I have been going to Sanctuary for years for my hair as well as monthly spa visits so when I was getting married I knew that Sanctuary would be the perfect salon and spa to take care of me and my bridesmaids.

The front desk was super helpful with scheduling (even my last minute add-on's!) and were so accomodating with helping us set up the breakfast I brought in for my group. They periodically checked in with us to see if we needed more coffee or water too.

I came in for a practice up-do and makeup application and was blown away! I rushed home to try on my dress and it was everything I had dreamed of. The day of my wedding was stress free because I knew exactly what to expect. My bridesmaids all looked beautiful and one of the stylists even put lip gloss and a little blush on my niece which she can't stop talking about. She felt like a princess and so did we.

Oh, and the spa! A few days before my big day all of us came in for manicures, pedicures, massages and facials. We had such a relaxing and fun girl day. The spa team at Sanctuary sure know their stuff! They made us feel beautiful from the inside out.

Whether you're looking for a new hair stylist or planning a spa day for you and your friends, Sanctuary is where you want to go!

Rude Rude Rude!. I had a gift certificate to Sanctuary and this one just happened to be the closest to my house so I booked an appointment for a full pedicure.

The front desk girl was texting when I came in and had to finish what she was writing before she would help me. She finally asked my name and then said "Ok you're signed in." and then picked her phone back up. I couldn't believe it.

I was greeted by the nail tech and taken to the pedicure room. She wasn't very conversational and when the technician asked what color I wanted, I requested that she french manicure them. She told me they don't do that and gave me a plastic box half full nail colors to pick from. The pedicure was just ok, nothing I would ever go back and pay for.

When I went back to use my gift card the front desk girl was no where to be found, so I stood and waited only to find out she had been off having a conversation on her cell phone. I asked to see the manager, who didn't seem to care and after I had patiently explained the situation, she told me if I didn't like the staff to just not come back.

Thank god this I didn't use my own money for this. I would never, ever go back.

Absolute worst and most unprofessional service!. I've tried this place a few times, the second time trying to give them another chance since they are near my house and both times were a disaster. They were horrible at waxing (NEVER have a stylist do it) and treated my hair like they were sheering livestock. The yanking and pulling - it was unbelievable. If that wasn't bad enough, the personnel are horrible. Unfriendly, untalented and completely unprofessional and charge way too much for their crappy service. NEVER EVER GO TO THIS SPA.

Beware of Pricing - Especially on Website!. The last few times I've been at Sanctuary in Eden Prairie (I've been at both) have been ho-hum. I've been going to another salon. So, now I have a gift certificate I have to spend. Thought I'd get a full-foil. Their website under Haircare and Make-up said $90. (No mention of all the variables that have to be considered.) When I called to ask, the "manager said, "We've been updating our website for one year. Those prices aren't right. Our website states that we can change our prices whenever we want". Apparently the disclaimer it is at the bottom of the "about us" page of the website, nicely buried. I'd didn't have time to search for the disclaimer so I guess I believe her. Instead of the $90 I can pay $110 for a stylist with no experience or I can pay $140 for a stylist who is middle of the road. Of course there is no guarantee of satisfaction. As I was told, "You get what you pay for." The price can also change depending on length of my hair, how thick it is, how much color is used, etc etc etc... I understand paying more for experience, but the whole pricing thing seems very shady. The website also states they were voted 2008 Best of in City Pages. That's the downtown Minneapolis location - far away from E.P. Try another salon - at least most can quote from the phone, instead of waiting until they have you in the chair.

I've seen better.... I have been to the Sanctuary several years ago and recently went back for some spa services. Overall, the salon is not too bad.. just outdated and in need of some renovations. Locker room and massage waiting area are not great, front desk and spa staff wonderful! Prices are high considering the facility, services make up for it though
