In Short – The Mississippi River changes more dramatically in the Twin Cities than anywhere else in its 2,350 miles, and this boulevard (River Road to locals) offers riverside seats. It's wild and shallow at the upper end, then creates a gorge near St. Anthony Falls, the Mississippi's only true waterfall. Look to one side and you'll see residential neighborhoods, urban parkland and concrete-jungle cityscapes. Turn your head and it's all river--sandy shores and wooded bluffs or barges and paddleboats.
