With its sunshine-yellow walls, ornately tiled bar, live flamenco music and dancing on weekend nights, the atmosphere is fun and festive. Crowded on weekends, couples often opt to enjoy Spanish-style tapas and wine at the curvy tiled bar while groups wait for a tall, metallic table. The frequently changing Italian menu has included inked black spaghetti with squid and seared duck with figs. Tapas feature garlic shrimp, fried calamari and tomato-tuna-egg salad.

I was first of all impressed the sheer volume of samples available. I emphasize impressed and not intimidated. The designer who I worked with was knowledgeable and quite friendly, naturally. Even with the sale price on my framing order I noticed that their prices were very reasonable. When I picked up my order my expectations were exceeded. Every now and then I would go to Micheals to get stuff framed and was always moderately satisfied with their work. Frame Ups did a tremendously better job! The price was better, the work was better! When the framer cares about what they are doing it shows! This is the place to go!

I went with my boyfriend for the $10- 4 flights of wine and free tapas bar on a Thursday night and we were NOT impressed. The tapas bar was VERY greasy and I dont think was ever refilled (it just sat on the bar with no warming plates for hot food or ice for cold food). We wish we would have ordered the other special they have on Thursday nights- If you order a $15 meal per person (minimum 2 people) you get a free bottle of wine. The meals sounded really good and so do the tapas you order from the regular menu, I watched the waitress walk by with some good looking (and smelling) food. I might give it try again (for the free bottle of wine deal) - but it will take some convincing to get my man to go back. Also, its one of the only places in uptown that they have happy hour valid on their patio.

I made the mistake of visiting La Bodega for a friend's final dinner in town. Myself and a fellow lactose intolerant friend figured we could find something on the menu that would fit our needs. So we ordered a 12 dollar entree with the cheese sauce on the side, expecting there would be some sort of seasoning or.... flavor to our chicken and pasta dish. Without a smothering of sauce the truth was revealed: plain chicken and plain noodles swimming in oil. This is just the beginning of a night of unpleasent experiences and 'i can't believe this costed this much's'. This was definitly not a good time. Loud music and pretty bland food. I could have saved myself the money and the unpleasentness by opening a can of chef boyardee at home.

Parking:
Street parking can be hard to find. Look for a free spot in a lot just south of Lake Street on Lyndale Avenue or pay a few bucks to park across Lake behind It's Greek to Me.
When to Go:
The restaurant features live music Thursday through Saturday night--anything from jazz to flamenco.
The Extras:
If you ask nicely, your server will probably let you order tapas from the sister restaurant next door--the two share a kitchen.
