My wife and I go out to eat fairly often and decided on Sushi Tango because we had been there a few weeks ago and loved it. Instead of sitting at the bar, which we did last time, we put our names in for a table and were seated within 5 minutes.
That's when things began to go downhill. Our server took well over 10 minutes to come over and introduce herself - it was not overly crowded at all. Several times she walked by without even aknowledging us. After taking our drink order, it took her another 15 minutes before she brought them over. Our appetizer took over 15 minutes as did our sushi - which did not taste fresh and was doused in a thick sauce.
My wife and I never complain about poor service and are always generous tippers no matter what, but this pushed us over the edge. We asked for the manager and she apologized profusely and gave us a 20% off coupon.
What we wanted was an intimate dinner with great service. We planned to spend a good amount of money for a long, satisfying dinner but were left vastly dissapointed.
Great place to get sushi in uptown.
I've been going to this Tango for about a year since I moved to Minneapolis and I love it. The staff is wonderful and the sushi is always top quality and done to perfection.
The happy hour is a good deal as well. Keep up the good work, guys!
***BEWARE RIPOFF REPORT*******. Sushi Tango screwed up our bill and ran extra charges on my cc. I went to restaurant the following day to speak with management and he refused to accommodate their mistake which was an extra charge of $119 on top of our $219 bill, but that’s ok, it says a lot about how they treat their loyal Happy Hour customers. Even a gift certificate would have deemed grateful, but that was never offered. I been a loyal customer for many years and this has been the first incident and also my last there, the group of people with me that night are also avoiding the place….. on a better note, great services are always available at ChaingMaiThai and FujiYa for happy hours…. Cheers. - GOGz
Really hit or miss. I have been a patron of Sushi Tango many times. I do like the fish and food but your service may not be fast or friendly. At this point I request a server that I know because of the past 10 times I have been there most of the wait staff has been rude and slow. When I sit at a table and everyone who has a different waiter has nice warm towels and refilled water and I sit quietly wondering if my server will come back. Overall very inconsistent service. I do enjoy when I have a long time and a few drinks. If it is not too busy the sushi chefs are very nice and have introduced me to several new types of sushi. I have never been served "bad" food but the service leaves much to be desired.
Great Food and Great Chefs. We stop in at Tango in uptown every time we are in town and have never had a bad experience. We love the new store and have a great time with the chefs and staff. We've had sushi across the country and this compares with any of the better restaurants we have encountered. We really appreciate not having to order off the menu and just let the chefs create items for us. Thank You Tango and we will be back. Plus, we will pass the word on about your great food and hospitality
2 noteworthy highlights-
1) OMG, no joke, the fish was so squishy/mushy. I swear I didn't need to use my teeth, I could just mash the sashimi with my tongue against the roof of my mouth. Tasteless. Disgusting!
2) Service was slow and inattentive. We had to ask for our order to be taken, for more water, to take our plates, and tfor he check
Lastly, is Rick James' "Superfreak" a song you'd like to listen to during your dining experience?
eh..not the best, but it will do in a pinch. Kind of seems like the sort of place you would see on a college campus. The service is less than stellar and the sushi is pretty mediocre for sure. Good Tofu appetizer, decent veggie eggrolls, OK veggie tempura. The rolls are where they lose me here. The Nori is really rubbery and they really cheapen-up on the avocado if you order avo rolls. It's mostly rice. Took about 15 minutes to get a waitress to order.
A little quiet on weeknights. The key to sushi is freshness so when I don't see a large crowd at a sushi place it make me a little nervous that they don't turn the sushi around that fast. Food was tasty though and our group of 4 people had a great time. Hard to find the first time since its up in the back corner on the second floor.
I GOT RIPPED OFF. Woodbury location: Me and couple friends decided to grab some sushi before we went to see a movie. We sat in the bar area and ordered dynamite rolls and a crunchy roll. Instead of getting the four dynamite rolls we ordered, we got two and I was still charged for the four. There was some sort of miscommunication with the chefs (although they were barely a feet away). I tried to correct the chef but he ignored me. The waitress was also VERY RUDE. In other words, I would NEVER visit Sushi Tango ever again. Unless you know the chefs personally of course. They gave their friends, who were sitting the next table over lots of attention and extra sushi. SO NEVER AGAIN....I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT AT ALL!
Overpriced, bad food, bad service. I went to Sushi Tango with a date and it was a referral from a friend who said it was "excellent." When we walked in there were only a few people seated and we were seated right next to all the people in the restaurant (when there were many open private tables available). My date had lipstick on his glass and didn't notice until he had drank almost his half his beer. When we notified the waitress she didn't seem concerned about this and instead asked "why he was wearing lipstick." She threw his entire drink out without offering him a new one! No discount or anything and then just said, "yeah that's gross!" The appetizers were the best part of the dinner and were reasonably priced. We both ordered the steak terriyaki which was close to $20 and was very disappointing. It tasted like a $2 round steak and neither of us ate it, yet we were not offered anything else. It took about 45 minutes to get our food and it was not busy. Sushi was not the best. Wouldn't recommend.
