Now bad food to go with bad service

We went in for lunch and the food was by far and away the worst food I have ever been served in any resturant in my life. Orderd the taco plate the waiter had no idea what I was talking about got a hard shell taco (kind you buy in the store) that had some wilted lettuce and the chicken that comes in a can naaasty!!! My wife's order they forgot to put the beef on it...The best part was when checking out a customer forgot something at there table and while the waiter was bringing it out to them the owner that was taking my money started calling them cabrones and a couple of other choice mexican adjectives...gives you a pretty good idea of what they think of the american customers. I have a home in Mexico and can say without a doubt I have had better food at Taco smell.

While El Gordo's food is very good.... their service is almost unbelievably bad.

The waiters that work there..plain and simply just don't get it.

They are incredibly rude.

To give you an example..the last time that i was there, i asked for some more chips and salsa...the waiter actually started to argue with me.

I told him that i would pay extra...needless to say he charged me and extra $2 for them.

While this was going on, there was a couple sitting on the other side of the restaurant.

The gentleman had to step outside for a minute..while he was away..a different waiter proceeded to hit on his girlfriend while he was gone.

I actually bring people there periodically, because the food is good...but mostly to witness the insanity of the waiters that work there.

Just to let everybody know...I am always very polite with my servers..and I always tip them a minimum of 20%....everywhere that i dine.

I have been dining at El Gordo for more than 10 years and have always enjoyed the food, fast, but good and always adequate service. I say that because they were aways friendly but didn't speak great English. After the restaurant switched to new owners and remodeled, I notice that service was not nearly as friendly, bordering on rude. I think the new owner and staff do not speak very good English at all. There are many, many places to eat in the area and I am, after all these years, going to avoid El Gordo or learn to speak better Spanish. :-)

Very good food and good service too much food. Kids food ok need tostadas as a regular menu item. Would recommend to anyone.

Great Restaurant!!!!

My girlfriend and I always go to this place for dinner. Everything we have ordered has been delicious. We typically can't finish, due to the large portions and frequent chips and salsa dip refills (I highly recommend the cheese dip too), and get to have leftovers for lunch the next day. The waiter/owner is awesome.

In reference to a previous review; when my girlfriend pays he teases me about her buying in a joking manner with a huge smile on his face and no disrespect intended. Why would he care who pays the bill! We will continue to visit El Gordo frequently, and recommend it to anyone we can!
