Editorial Review for Ike's Food and Cocktails – by Donna Tabbert Long

In Short
One look at the neon sign outside and you'd swear this place has been around since the '40s. The gorgeous antique wood bar runs the length of the narrow room and World War II memorabilia adorns the walls. Lunchtime features hand-carved roast beef sandwiches, huge hand-patted burgers, or chili thick with shredded beef and rich spice. For dinner, there's roasted chicken with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy--the Blue Plate Special.

Arrive around 5pm if you want to sit in one of the coveted comfy booths for dinner.

Happy Hour

From 3pm to 6pm weekdays, get food and drink specials; at 5pm, a DJ spins in the bar. Late-night happy hour goes from 10pm to midnight.

Know Before You Go

No smoking in the dining room at lunch. At dinner, smoking is allowed in half the room--a state-of-the-art ventilation system keeps it tolerable.

One bartender there is very rude. We had to flag him down everytime we wanted another round of drinks. He needs to get into a different career because he has no clue and has an attitude.

We enjoyed ourselves very much, the food seemed quite nice for the price. Not a huge menu but plenty for casual dining. Space was a little tight, seems similar to Harry's Food on Washington Ave but they have much more space(big booths).

Pros: Nice simple menu

Cons: Very Tight seating
