Editorial Review for Solera – by Donna Tabbert Long
In Short
Vibrant mosaics, contemporary sculpture, curving booths, floating glass light fixtures--everything about this art nouveau-styled space indicates it's not your average tapas bar. A youthful, high-energy crowd keeps the vibe bouncing. La Belle Vie's Josh Thoma and Tim McKee have outdone themselves creating artful, flavor-savvy cuisine. Entrees such as garlicky roasted monkfish and strip loin with mushrooms are finely executed, but it's the 40-plus small plates arriving like mini-masterpieces that are the showstoppers.

I've been dropping in at Solera for the late night happy hour recently (half price drafts and sangria, $2 off cocktails, $2-3 tapas) and always enjoy the bar and the great specials, but last Tuesday was the first night of a cool new band at Solera. They said their name was Tico Tico, and they played a lot of latin jazz and salsa and some African sounding music. The music was great, not too loud, but very energetic. I was told that the bass player was from Ivory Coast, and he sounded amazing. I was really expecting to see some dancing, because the music was perfect for it. Maybe this week. Regardless, I'll be back on Tuesdays to hear some more.
Pros: Great live music on Tuesdays!!!

So my husband and I went here for our anniversary and they seated us in a cozy two person booth. It started out quiet, but then a group of seven people came in and sat next us and although they were a little loud, our experience was still good. We tried 5 tapas plates and most of them were very good. My favorite was dish was the veal meatball and I loved the sangria (although it could've used a little more fruit). The ambience is very nice; it can be romantic if you sit in one of their cozy booths, but if you want more noise and liveliness, then I suggested sitting in the room with the bar. All in all a great place to go if you want to have a romantic night or if you want to go as a group.
Pros: Food, amience, services
Cons: Big parties can ruin romantic dates, parking
