My family and I had a hankering for
some Asian food. We had never been to Great Moon Buffet so we thought we'd give it a try, as we are in the area. Now, don't get me wrong, I do not expect Asian food to be authentic, especially buffet food, but I at least expect it to have a taste.
Calling the food at Great Moon bland would be a huge compliment. But without sounding over-zealous, bland is the only word I can use. The "vegetable Lo Mein" was not that at all. In fact, the only vegetable in it was onion. That's it. No scarce amounts of anything else at all. The Fried donuts were completely hard all the way through, as if they were 3 days stale and sitting in the open air under a heat lamp all day.
The ribs my dad had tired looked completely dry and tough. The cream cheese wontons had so little filling in them they were not worth eating, and on top of that, the little filling they did use tasted like it had spoiled or gone rancid before they used it.
My boyfriend's chicken was tough and under-cooked.
We tried to bring this to the attention of the lady who sat us and we asked for a refund. We had only been there for 10 complete minutes and had eating maybe half a plate each after finally giving up.
Now, The lady when we came in spoke PERFECT English, with barely even a hit of an accent. But suddenly when we requested to speak with someone about a refund she almost seemed to be pretending to not be able to effectively communicate. She just kept saying "you keep plate, you try more food." Even if she couldn't communicate effectively she didn't bother going to find a co-worker who could.
We walked out without a refund. We spent $38 for the three of us to dine on a half a plate each.
The upside, if there is one, we all felt so sick we weren't hungry to eat anything else. hooray.
If you like decent food with taste, that is not spoiled, and a fair price, avoid Great Moon at all costs. Just because they have been there for 50 years like the woman claims, doesn't mean they have good food. It means they've spent all 50 years slowly trucking downhill.
HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! RUDE!!. I gave this restaurant 1 star only because there was no option for lower. At one point during our family dinner I was asked by the waitress if I would like another glass of soda as she rolled her eyes at me and reached across me to refill others glasses and gave me just a splash and walked away. After dribbling soda across the table mind you. When we had finished our dinner they came over to clear the table and pointed to the tray and told us we forgot the tip and had to pay one. She called this a "service fee". She DEMANDED a tip!!!! Her service sucked and she was rude! She told me the amount you pay when you come in only covers the cost of the food and the pop, NOT the service. Since when is it mandatory to pay for crap service. A tip is optional!!! That's why they don't include it in the cost of the food!
Warning!!!!! Nail is in the food..
This is the story at great moon buffet in White bear Ave. But I would like to let people know because these 3 great moon buffet restaurants are owned by same person.
I often go there. Today, I went there and found nail in the food. I complained and told manager to give me money back. They said they can not. I had to ague with her for an hour and still she did not sorry and did not return money back. This all experience ruined my dinner time. They kept serving food in which I found nail. Restaurant does not know how to make customer safe and feel good. Their food is dangerous. Seriously, dangerous. If I ate that nail, I would be in hospital by now. So do not go there if you do not want to hurt yourself.
