$3 coffee/tea! Too expensive for the quality.. Breakfast service was excellent! However food not worth the money. (Many items were $10.50.) Packages of Smuckers jelly?? One piece of toast comes unbuttered but packages of butter are provided. Unfortunately by then the toast is too cool to spread the butter. Bon Vie Scrambler was dry and bland. Dinner might be better.
Really? I gave this place 2 thumbs down. I dont know what Im missing but when I went for brunch I was in awe to find packages of smuckers jellies on the table (Perkins style) and little creamers. The environment wasnt that great as you sat facing a storage rack filled with generic toilet paper. The service was poor and after sitting there for 30 minutes we were told they were out of Bernaise sauce, and since the house specialty is Benedicts, we went elsewhere. No apologies were given, but a bill for the coffees that we drank. (Btw the coffee is mediocre at its best) acidity level high and served in cold mugs. I emailed the restaurant and after not hearing back from them in 3 weeks I thought it was best for me to publish my review. If they dont care, why should I. This place is not all that. Go to Meritage, Frost, Grand Bakery or even better, if you like your jellies and creamers in packages go to Mickeys Dinner.
I love Bon Vie!. The food is consistently excellent, with a rotating menu. The space is cute and friendly in a great neighborhood. Ben is one of the best servers I have ever had...ask for the redhead!
Reasonable prices, thoughtful cooking and local ingredients make this bistro a perennial St. Paul favorite..
In Short
The warm dining room has a casually elegant vibe, with plenty of intimate tables, cozy couches and artwork on the walls. The menu keeps the greatest hits of each of the restaurant's former incarnations, while adding innovative new items and putting a greater emphasis on simple home-cooking. Creative breakfast options include biscuits with homemade sausage and herbed gravy, and French toast with fresh blueberries and a heap of sweet whipped cream.
almost hate to tell you .... because this great spot is so little itty bitty & we've always been able to get a table for breakfast without waiting. I love to be surprised by their menu, which is full of fresh, seasonal ingredients. Very good service & prices. Not only is this exactly the kind of place you want to take your Mom or best friend to when they're in town, all that fresh whipcream also tends to make you flirt with your husband & daydream about running off to Paris.
