by earliebrid
Beats the rainforest cafe in ambience, food and drinks, great coconut shrimp, fish tacos, captain jacks chicken sandwich, fabulous chicken fatbread and jamaician chicken pasta. Everybody in our group were very satisfied with the quality service, food and great tropical drinks. highly recommend, also check out the entertainment!
- Pros: Food, Music, Cocktails, Fun
- Cons: No outdoor deck (mall of america)
A little bit of the Islands right here in Minnesota!

Looking to get away if only in your mind? Then venture on up to the 3rd floor Mall of America and stroll in to Kokomo's Island Cafe. You will be greeted by friendly "natives" who will escort you to your table or point you in the direction of the Tiki gods welcoming you into the bar for your favorite Boat Drink or libation. The food is a delightful escape from the ordinary. From the JamaicanJerk wings to the Cuban sandwich with a side of Mango Salsa your tastebuds will be doing the limbo. There are plenty of kid friendly items available as well. The wait staff and the bartenders will make you feel like Kokomo's is your corner bar and grill where everybody knows your name, in fact it's not uncommon to find the owners chatting with the customers like old friends.
Recently Kokomo's has added live music to the menu adding to the tropical theme of the establishment.
I highly recommend Kokomo's if you are looking for a family friendly outing, a quiet place for that first date, an evening out with a loved one or if you just want to kick back and take in the game or chat with good friends in the bar. Kokomo's will make you feel like you just got off the plane in the Islands! The only thing missing is the white sand...
- Pros: Tropical setting, family friendly
- Cons: The Mall makes them close too early.
Avoid it, whenever possible!

I don't mind dining at the Mall of America. But my first and only experience at Kokomo's was awful. Our table was sticky, the area had a bad smell to it, the bathrooms were dirty, and the food was less than stellar. When we arrived, they had just seated two large parties, and were told that it would be a half hour wait. When you looked in the door, you could see that over half the tables were empty. We waited 20 minutes, and were taken to our table. Our waitress was stretched thin, covering every table within eyeshot. We ordered drinks, which took a while and tasted okay, but didn't get the chance to order for a long time, and after we did, the food arrived too hot for some, too cold for others. It was okay in taste, but for a tastier meal at the same price, just go to T.G.I.Fridays or something.
- Pros: Good drinks
- Cons: poor management, lackluster food.
