Tips for El Nuevo Rodeo Restaurant

March 11, 2013

I went with a group of friends hoping to enjoy the "Authentic Mexican" food. We waited a half hour before someone took our order. Waited another hour before it came. The salsa for the chips was too spicy for one of our party to eat so he had to sit for an hour before he could eat something. The red and green salsas were both very spicy. Food was just OK....nothing fantastic. We ordered a pitcher of Horchata....it never came. Yes, it was a Friday night, but these guys really need to get their act together. I haven't had such bad service in ages! I was truly embarrassed that I had recommended this restaurant to my friends and suggested we go there.

Food is good....the rest, not so much. Took my family of five out, we really love Mexican food, and my eldest daughter spent two months on a volunteer trip in Oaxaca Mexico and loved the local food, so I decided we would give El Nuevo Rodeo a whirl. The first thing that was very noticable is the slow apathetic service, which unfortunately sets the tone for the visit. We ordered the Fundito as an apetiser, which is basically supposed to be a crock of melted cheese into which you dip fresh totillas. Did I mention service was slow? The Fundito arrived and was a solid cold mass of cheese in the crock which could not be eaten, they did bring a fresh crock, with no apologies. We ordered a variety of foods as we were excited to share the dishes, Tacos El Pastor, Tostadas, Chili Rellenos, Torta, and the daily Chicken (can remember the name) special. The food took way to long, 30 - 40 minutes after the appetiser, but all of it was fresh and hot. The food quality was good, but nothing special, and not worth the $65 + tip. The other dissapointing thing was that it was very cold in the dining room when the heat wasn't blowing, which was not often enough for my wife and two (late teen) daughters, we basically had to wear out jackets through the entire meal. To sum up, good food, ok atmosphere although not warm, poor service. There are much better places to eat good authentic Mexican food, that have wonderful service.

Authentic Mexican Food. If you're looking for real authentic Mexican food and Music, this is the place to go in Minneapolis. It's clean, the food is great, their service is excellent. If you're just looking to eat and enjoy the food, go during lunch or dinner hours. But if you're looking to have fun the Latin way, go Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. They are known to have the best live music, like Bandas (regional mexican bands), Cumbias, Reggaetton . This place is the real thing.

You've got to try the Mango Mojito and the Chupireta Mojito!!!. The Seafood Parillada was sooo good and perfect for the three of us to share family-style, and the service was very attentive and charming. I will come back again and again! Cleanest kitchen I've seen on Lake Street!

South-of-the-border spot that serves authentic Mexican food in the evening and becomes a lively dance club at night.. In Short
On weekend nights, the cowboy hats and shiny belt buckles come out. So do the immaculate alligator boots and strappy heels, all ready to salsa and meringue and baila the twilight hours away at this Mexican nightclub and eatery. Late at night, Dos Equis, Modelos and margaritas become must-have accessories to the flashy attire that spins like pinwheels on the dance floor. The dinner crowd, however, is laid-back and cool, sipping on the restaurant's signature Cadillac Margaritas and munching on fresh crispy chips and generous portions of savory Mexican fare.

Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. Spacious dance club featuring live Latin music nightly. The adjoining casual Mexican restaurant serves brunch, lunch, dinner and late-night eats.
