Tips for Mccoy's Public House

This warm and friendly Kansas City export is a welcome addition in St. Louis Park.. In Short
Earth tones and stone walls create an unpretentious atmosphere for upscale-casual dining. A long, communal table surrounded by stools is perfect for a gathering. Diners seeking privacy opt for a cozy table by a fireplace in the smaller dining rooms. A big menu pleases all, with symbols marking spicy or vegetarian-friendly items. Gourmet brick-oven pizza with wild mushrooms and Brie is big enough to share while juicy barbecued bison burgers satisfy carnivorous cravings.

Skip the burgers. My friend and I each ordered the cheeseburger. We were SHOCKED when they arrived with an ice cream scoop-sized disgusting looking blob of 'cheese' on top. Did some chef think that was a zippy new idea? People, cheese balls are for passe hors d' oeuvres trays..not burgers. Ick. We rolled the grainy ball of waxy looking cheese to the side. Both burger had been ordered 'medium.' Mine was fine. My friend's was TOTALLY RAW inside with red blood all over the plate. Double ick. Fries were good. Am not a picky eater at all, but after the cheese ball topping..and raw meat, I lost my appetite.

Good thing I went!!!. Upon reading the most recent user review I approached cautiously. Obviously everyone is looking for something different. I thoroughly enjoyed both the food and service. A nice casual atmoshpere with pleasant helpful servcie. The burgers were outstanding. The Asian Surf and Turf was exactly what we were looking for. A nice variety of Appetizers and Home-Brewed beers, a little of something for everyone. We started with Happy Hour on a Thursday and moved into the dining room - the place was packed! They are definately doing something right and they sure did with us.

Can't wait to return!!!

Not Impressed with food or service. I found McCoy's to be much below average and very noisy. We were seated at a dirty table that had not been wiped down.

The food ordered was generally greasy and nothing to write home about. My drink was made wrong twice and never corrected.

Worst all was the service - our Waitress was rude. When I mentioned the first drink wasnt right she was short saying: They are all different. As if I dont know what my favorite drink tastes like. She rudely brought back a replacement equally as bad, AND never checked how the second drink was or asked when she DROPPED (literally) the bill on the table and the drink sat there full.

I hope this was an off night - because all they have right now is a trendy location with bad service and mediocre food - that can only get you by so long...

Here to Stay. McCoy's is a great neighborhood place for groups of friends and family.

There are big comfortable booths and tables plus an outdoor patio. The menu has a variety to choose from including lobster spring rolls, cheeseburgers, filet minion (my favorite in town), thin crust pizzas, mushroom/spinach lasagna and a grown-up version of macaroni & cheese to name a few choices. Picky eaters will be happy because everything is made to order and the chefs are accommodating. The beer and wine list is extensive including their micro brews made in KC and a reserve wine list. The crowd is a mix of all ages but as the night progresses it's usually people in their 20-30's. Lunch is also served from a limited menu that includes big salads and sandwiches. I would recommend making a reservation for groups larger than 8 or call ahead to sit outdoors (patio fills up fast).

Excellent Experience!. After countless months of awful food and service at many twin cities favorites someone recommended this eatery.... I was weary... but its was amazing! The service was out of this world. The waitstaff seemed to have the rhythym of the wonderful jazz music in the background. Which leads me to the ambiance. It was very cozy and modern at the same time, with hints of the past and historical icons scattered throughout. The food was filling and very flavorful. The creme brulee trio is a must! The bar scene was buzzing with the after work swanky crowd. A new Twin Cities favorite!

McDud. Interesting menu, but the food didn't deliver on my expectations. Everything was okay ... but I was hoping I'd be able to add this newer spot in SLP to my regular dining circuit. Service was slow. The house brews were a bright spot. When looking for an everyday meal I'll drive another mile or so down Excelsior and stop at Dixie's. The bar scene, food and view are all better.

Bad food. Stiff drinks...which is nice, but the food was horrible...chicken was bland, potatoes were dry and the asian salad dressing was horrible, i will only go there for pizza and drinks now

my type of place. I love McCoy's. I went in last week with my wife and kids and had a fantastic meal. The steaks are outstanding! Afterwards, I ran into some friends, so the wife took the kids home and my friends and I stayed and drank in the bar until two. It was like two nights out in one.

Disappointment. What's all the buzz about? This place is really overrated. Frankly, the food was of a Perkins quality. Don't get me wrong--I like Perkins, I was just expecting more from McCoy's. We had to be re-seated because they seated us in the family section. This place is great for kids--horrible for a romatic dining experience. Additionally, our server seemed indifferent to everything we said. Oh well, I tried it. I won't be going back.
