Editorial Review for Bellanotte – by Donna Tabbert Long
In Short
Its name means "beautiful night" and beauty is everywhere at this resplendent spot. Beautiful people (dressed to the nines), beautiful location (directly across from Target Center) and beautifully designed room (dark walnut woodwork, butter-soft leather chairs, glassed in fire pits). A trendy crowd hangs by the onyx-topped bar, but the best dining seats are in the sophisticated, octagon-shaped atrium. The stylish menu ranges from Italian classics to trendy American fare, including the braised-for-hours osso buco.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoFor late-night conversation, stay away from tables near the bar. People-watching is great, but the music can be loud.
Where to SitFor pizza lovers, there's seating around the stone oven; noshers should check out lounge areas with sexy leather banquettes. In summer, a spacious landscaped patio is a nice option.
Notable Wine ListBesides magnificent martinis at the bar, check out the snazzy 14-foot wine tower loaded with well-chosen wine.
Lunch SpotLunch is cheaper (most items are less than $10).
Bar SceneThe lounge is open until 1am Mondays to Thursdays, until 2am Fridays and Saturdays and until 11pm Sundays.

Bellanotte is the first restaurant that has rivaled same-price dining experiences in San Francisco. The service was exceptional (almost to the point of excess), the food was excellent and the wine recommendations were perfect. Dishes were cleared and brought out promptly (despite the completely full restaurant), all staff were attentive and friendly and the entire experience felt engaging and positive. Another note about is the chic interior and (as far as I could tell) younger crowd. Overall a great experience. I was very impressed.
Pros: excellent service, great food, "chic" vibe
Cons: none that I've experienced

Were promptly seated and waitress was pleasant, taking the time to run through the menu. 2 in our party asked if they could substitute the pasta that came with the ahi-tuna for asparagus and were told it was fine; 3 minutes before our mains came out, she then told us they would have to charge for the sub, definitely a little late in the proceedings. The Ahi-tuna was meant to be one of their signature dishes and boated sushi-grade tuna; this was definitely not the case. The "Mozzarella in Carrozza" was nothing more than a couple of flat, breaded mozzarella sticks that you could find in a bar; certainly not what was described in the menu (lightly sauteed and baked). The flat bread had a chunk of cheese dropped in the center which wasn't properly cooked (go to RedStone if you want a proper flat bread in my opinion) The Penne Vodka was well thought of, a saving grace of sorts Service staff were over eager, trying to snatch the plates away almost before you were gone. Beer selection was pitiful, wines were certainly good though. Overall, not a place to go back to, especially given the prices!
Pros: Good wine selection, good atmosphere, parking across the street
Cons: Poor food, expensive, agressive staff, having a bathroom attendant is pretentious in this day
