In Short – Floor-to-ceiling windows look out on the cool steel and glass of the IDS center, but the walls and furnishings in warm reds, oranges and golds make it cozy and comfortable inside. Post-work crowds, couples and gaggles of girlfriends slide into tall, plush booths and sleek tables. The eclectic New American menu has a smattering of plates that range from casual (pan-seared mahi-mahi) to high-class (the shrimp and spicy sausage crostini appetizer or breaded veal chop).

Is customer service dead?

by Aumer00 at Citysearch

I arranged a business lunch for a party of 12, simple enough. Well, we were crammed around a table that would have been perfect for 10, but was not the best option for a dozen of us. Plus we were in the middle of a very noisy dining room.

After waiting over 20 minutes for menus, and an add'l 10 for water, it became quite clear that this would not be your traditional 60 minute downtown lunch. Once the food arrived-some 70 minutes after the time of our reservation-we were already running so late that we had to wolf down our food to get back to the office.

All in all, the food was tasty, but the experience was so excruciatingly slow, that I can't recommend Mission for lunch if you have any time constraints whatsoever.

  • Pros: Nice location, good space, great bar
  • Cons: Unacceptably slow service

below average food, inconsistant service

by mmj111 at Citysearch

I work downtown and have been there several times for lunch. I have had good waiters but today we had just the worst waiter ever, arrogant, rude, actually got mad when we ordered waters. Snapped his little book shut and stomped off. Then when we went to pay he made a big show about laying out my change, which wasnt even his tip and had so much attitude about it-- it was crazy! I plan to never return, for those that think they still want to go:

the food is just ok-

The steak salad is very good and I hear the buffalo chicken salad is very good too. (excellent blue cheese dressing and it come on both those entrees) . The deviled ham sandwich is pathetic, its a glorified gas station sandwich and comes with a hunk of iceberg lettuce.... The chicken entree is very bland, not good, the chicken is dry and the sauce isnt flavorful at all.

  • Pros: nice ambience
  • Cons: rolling the dice with the service, not that great of food, parking

Great venue with friends

by pugasus at Citysearch

We went out to dinner with friends on a Saturday night and found it to be an outstanding experience. We were seated in a somewhat secluded room and the ambience was perfect for conversation. The service was superb--perfectly timed and not the least intrusive. The wine connoisseur in our group was very pleased with the wine list. The food was excellent--very artfully presented and prepared perfectly. We all felt the portions were very generous and that the prices were appropriate. I got one of the house specialties; the black cod. It was delicious--served with tender, buttered leeks, button mushrooms and a poached egg. I felt the combination of flavors was complmentary and unusual. We also enjoyed a sampling of side dishes and the green beans were a favorite, prepared with Szcheuan spices. The rest of our party enjoyed their meals too, and the vegetarian among us was well accommodated. For dessert, I had the pumpkin ice cream, which was delicious and just the perfect amount. We like to visit Twin Cities restaurants every couple of months with these friends, and we all agreed that Mission American was one of the better ones.

  • Pros: Ambience, Creative meal preparation, service
  • Cons: none

Too much $ for what you get

by jamespage09 at Citysearch

Went with my boyfriend for a nice evening out. We dine out frequently but I would have to say we would not return to this place. I ordered the Roast which was excellent. The meat was tender and juicy with a wonderful subtle apple glaze, wonderful dish. My boyfriend ordered the most expensive item on the menu, the Tenderloin for $36. The meat was good and cooked decent, but very small and came with no sides or salad at all, just cold crappy french fries. For that price, I expect some sides and extras. We had to pay $9 for a small plate of brocolli. Not worth it! We can go to the Lexington Steak House where the steak is always perfect and get twice the food for half the price. The service and ambiance was decent, but the atmosphere was almost uncomfortably quiet. All we could hear throughout our entire dinner was a drunk blonde a few tables away blabbering on about why she can't seem to land a guy.

  • Pros: Ecletic menu
  • Cons: not enough included in the meal- way too expensive

Excellent!!

by jmctr at Citysearch

We were seeking a place for a romantic dinner. Mission was a great choice. Appetizer, salads and entrees were all excellent. Timing of the food coming out of the kitchen was right on without rushing or lagging. Classy ambiance. Great service, attentive but not intrusive.
