Editorial Review for Big Buck Roadhouse – by Donna Tabbert Long

In Short
With its open kitchen, polished knotty-pine tables and a built-in western suburban crowd, this independently owned rural roadhouse bustles with upscale action. Country-friendly servers in subdued hunter-orange shirts keep busy with families and groups of friends consuming big platefuls in happy abandon. There's brick-oven pizzas and pastas, but best bets are the wood-roasted man food like New York strip or pork prime rib. The pan-seared lamb aromatic with lemon, feta and garlic.

Insider Tips

Save Time

This is a popular place, so if the wait is long, remember the full menu is also served in the smoke-free bar.

Know Before You Go

If you're not a local, call for directions. Even though the restaurant is located off a frontage road, it's not the easiest to find.

The Extras

A hearty deep-dish apple pie, served with ice cream, is a fitting finale.

This place has a great menu. Awesome gourmet burgers and nice main courses like short ribs and pasta dishes. It has a nice comfortable atmosphere and a neat little patio. Service is very good. My only complaint are the hours - this place closes at 10pm SHARP and they practically kick you out then. That's a little early if you are having a nice dinner or definitely for drinks in the bar. Go early.

Great happy hour at "normal" hours of 3-6. Half price Summit is great and the appetizer options for $1.99 are great. Mahi Mahi tacos were great, chicken wings, while standard fare, were excellent ,and the waffle fries with jalapeno aioli were tasty. Nice, warm, cozy atmosphere and a nice alternative in the suburbs.

Pros: Great food, great happy hour, great service.

Cons: Not easy to find if you are unfamiliar with the ar
