Stella's Fish Cafe

Casual seafood restaurant serving Gulf Coast favorites

  • Rooftop patio
  • Private parties
  • Corporate events

Stella's Fish Cafe & Prestige Oyster Bar is a casual seafood restaurant with the soul of a Low Country lunch counter. Offering super-fresh fish and oysters, along with Cajun and Creole specialties, Florida fried grouper sandwiches, Po' Boys, and Delta Dog Tater Tots, Stella serves Gulf Coast favorites in a setting that has all the elegance of a swamp-side fish camp.

Grab a seat at the oyster bar, pony up to the liquor bar or slip into a booth in either the downstairs or upstairs dining rooms. You can also book the kitchen table or head for the elevator and kick back on top of Stella's, featuring the city's most spectacular rooftop deck.

Editorial Review for Stella's Fish Cafe – by Melissa Sperl

In Short
There aren't many options for casual seafood in this landlocked state, but Stella's acts like there's an ocean just on the edge of Uptown. The food truly is down-home, with a hot Cajun slant. Choose your own sauce--from garlic butter to redneck reduction--and cooking method--from seared to grilled--for any fish dish (menu changes daily). Round out your meal with a side of jalapeno cornbread and Key lime pie for dessert.

Went to Stellas for a birthday dinner, the new waitress was PAINFULLY slow with everything. She forgot salads, soups, drinks... Finally, all of our meals showed up, EXCEPT the birthday girls. She forgot to order her meal! It could have been excused, albeit very irritating, if the manager had supported her. When the manager did come to the table, it was all excuses "i've been on vacation, and haven't monitored her training...." but then the manager disappeared again, leaving this poor, ill prepared, ill suited for waitressing, waitress to absolutely flounder... The manager thought that buying us some deserts should have been well worth our trouble. Ill trained manager should have comped the meal and given all 7 of us gift certs for a future visit. The FOOD WAS TERRIBLE to boot, and that's not a skewed view from the experience. It was bad, tasteless, and barely warm. Whew. It was terrible. AVOID IT!

Pros: They have the only patio in uptown

Cons: Terrible food, service and management

Let's see, an oyster bar that has no fresh oysters available when they are advertised as one of the daily specials, a less than inspiring menu, fouled up drink orders, and an extra $1.50 if you order a beverage "Neat".... Imagine my surprise when the bill came and we were charged an extra $4.50 for 3 $11.00 shots of tequilla. Are you kidding!?!?!?!? The only reason I gave this place 2 stars instead of one is that, when questioned about the upcharge for the shots, the waiter apologized and removed that charge as well as the charges for one round of drinks...out of the 10 or so rounds our group of 6 bought. Diner/Drinker beware.

Pros: Valet Parking

Cons: Boring Menu, Loud Atmosphere, Poor Value

Diners buzz about this Uptown cafe's impressive roof deck; but there's something to be said for the seafood, too.  See the full editorial review.
