Editorial Review for Dine – by Valerie Moloney
The Scene
Floor-to-ceiling windows and earth tones warm up this contemporary South Loop restaurant anchoring the Crowne Plaza Chicago Metro Hotel. Up front, a separate lounge with a horseshoe-shaped banquette invites diners to sip martinis, but few do before being seated. Burgundy leather booths and tables line the inner and windowside walls on the first floor, while steps lead up to a second dining room overlooking a busy, exhibition kitchen.
The Food
Home cooking achieves a modern twist at this upscale diner and martini bar. Familiar starters such as crispy calamari are fired up with jalapeno batter, while quesadillas take on smoky notes with a layer of gouda. Hearty appetites will savor thick, moist meatloaf atop truffled seared spinach and mashed potatoes or creamy linguine served with mushrooms and short stalks of asparagus. S'more cake delights with a peanut butter and toasted marshmallow middle.

The food here was definitely a disappointment. Our soups arrived cold, a third of the muscles we ordered were closed. The crab cakes were bland and chewy. Thank goodness the wine selection was excellent. As for the service, it was adequate, but slow.
Cons: Food.

We've visited Dine a number of times now and it's been a great addition to the west loop. The food has always been terrific, with big portions and very reasonable prices. If you are looking for comfort food, they have a lot of choices but give the macaroni and cheese side a try. We've had nothing but attentive, fast service in a comfortable atmosphere. We'll be back soon.
Pros: Comfort Food, Great Service
Cons: None
