Wow--and surprisingly comfortable! – This was our first time dining at Cue. First, the obvious need not be said (it's a gorgeous room). Not so obvious--we loved our table, the chairs were positively cushy, and there was no noisy din that one would expect from a busy restaurant. Great acoustics, I guess. Both my husband and I loved our food--he had the pork chop, which was delicious (and the Chef is clearly a generous man--it was sizable), and my arctic char was perfectly cooked and served with a sauce that was positively addictive. Yes, they do indeed have some high-end wine that's expensive, but our $40.00 bottle was just perfect. Service was friendly and well-paced. Overall a very fun, delicious & yes Comfortable experience. We'll definitely be back.
Great fine dinning restaurant – My husband and I dine out offten and have been to restaurants all over the world. This place tops our list! the service was right on point, the food was perfectly prepared and the we had a great table with a beautiful view.
The demise of a great restaurant. – I LOVED Cue! The food, service and atmosphere were all among the best in the city. What happened? The original chef is gone and the new guy came from a collage foodservice operation. The food is no longer inspiring and has been hardly palitable. The service was top notch. Now our favorite manager is gone and the service is dreadful. Why did they distroy my favorite restaurant? Go for a drink...eat elsewhere.
Be careful what you wish for... – I wished, prayed and hoped for many years that the restaurant community would develop. I had no issue with expensive food, but I would expect the cuisine to be successful.
Maybe it was the night, but the restaurant was fairly empty, so we assumed (my partner and myself) that our dishes would be exquisitely prepared and rival other competitors.
We were wrong, starting with the amuse bouse, I was impressed. I was even impressed with the scallops, although I thought the whole foi gras placed on top of the scallop was a bit much. (no not cut up, ground, smothered, but simple placed). My boyfriend loving the flavor pushed them onto my plate not being able to handle the quantity of super rich duck liver. I of course responded with, ?at least we know we are getting our monies worth?. Not sure of the outcomes and becoming increasingly aware of the beautiful space, we share the ?steak? if you will. Actual steaks size was small, especially considering it was not as tender or as flavorful as we would of liked. But it came with potatoes? which I discovered quite quickly had obviously been left on a plate in back, and added just for presentation because they forgot to cook them. Fully raw I call to our server, but it takes him so long to return that we had finish the rest of the entree, and we really ready to just walk out.
But then it takes almost 20 minutes to get our check, as our server sits at the bar smooching with another guest. I would not complain so much, but when the food is average and the service is appalling, I don?t want to pay over $100.00
Prices were comparable to La Belle Vie, and the food there is 100 times better, i will not return to Cue, nor will i recamend it. If you are in the area, go to Wasabi, (accross the street), you bill will be lower, and the overly cheesy atmosphere, great service, and spectacular cuisine will leave you with a smile on your face.
Rather dissapointed... – I've been craving rabbit for a while now, and after doing a search for restaurants that serve rabbit, the Cue at the Guthrie came up. Just to be sure they had it, I double checked their website menu...
So we got there, seating was fast. Decor looked like it was out of a 60's sci-fi movie... but kind of snazzy. I took one look at the (very) short menu and noticed that there was NO RABBIT! I asked about it and apparently "We opened with rabbit, but we don't update our website very often" (or ever?). Also found out that rabbit got taken off the menu because someone complained that serving rabbit was "cruelty to animals", like serving halibut, steak, or chicken is not?
Thus, I ordered the halibut and my boyfriend ordered the steak. They gave my boyfriend and I each one incredibly hard bread roll with butter "knives" with no cutting edge when we really needed saws to get through them. When the food arrived (much later), the steak gave off the impression that it had been cooked in an entire stick of salty butter. Although tender, it didn't taste like beef, it tasted like salted animal fat and was perched on a bed of runny mashed potatoes that had a really odd and unplaceable aftertaste.
The halibut, while nice and crisp and good on the outside, was rather slimy on the inside. At least, unlike the steak, its taste resembled the animal it came from.
The drinks - wine and a bloody mary were also so so. The bloody mary in particular tasted more like someone had handed me a glass of Tabasco sauce and threw a couple of olives on top than the proper slightly spiced tomato drink it should have been.
Needless to say, it was definitely not worth the ridiculous prices.
Eat Before Going – The decor is absolutely stunning. I loved everything from the silver menus to the large pillars scattered across the dining room.. As you walk in, you pass the bar and waiting at the end of the bar is the hostess. I actually liked that the bar/dining area were seperated. There was a live jazz band that evening and immediately the atmosphere became very intimate, cool and relaxed. We were seated promptly and waited for the rest of the guests to arrive. We had a group of 15+, while waiting the staff seemed attentive with making sure we had drinks/appetizers. As the group got situated by 8:30, the thought of having "attentive" staff quickly diminished. As we reached 9:30, everyone started to wonder if the staff knew we planned to have dinner that night? Finally, the only visible waiter was flagged down but wasn?t able to help since we were not in his section so he said he would get someone to help us. It was not busy that night, aside our group, there were 2 other couples dining in front of the band. Our orders were finally taken by 10. 10:30 rolled around and nothing was served yet. I don?t expect a group of 15 can be served under 30 minutes but there was nothing that came while waiting for dinner. No salad, bread, nothing! Finally around 10:45, bread baskets came out. By that time, I lost my appetite. If it took 45 minutes to get bread baskets out, I couldn?t imagine waiting another 45 minutes for dinner so I asked my fiance to cancel our order and grab the check. While he wondered around the place looking for staff, dinner was finally being served. I immediately asked the waitress for our check to give her a head start. The risotto and asparagus was a weird yellow color but I decided to give it a try anyway, it was undercooked and COLD. To sum things up, we wasted 4 hours of our night waiting for NOTHING and then paying the added gratuity for the disappointing service.
Abysmal dining experience – Our experience:
Wine -- they wouldn't open a cheap bottle of malbec to sample so we went with an alternative, but come on ... in retrospect, that was a bit of foreshadowing ...
Lamb entree -- old and dry; mutton stew would have been more appropriate ...
Mussels -- served a la sauce de' la toilet -- inedible -- even the tobasco sauce they brought to help us choke them down (classy) couldn't eradicate the stagnant, used bathwater flavor -- where was the jalapeno pop we were promised? ...
Tenderloin -- anything but tender, and instead of morrel-based sauce it tasted like they cooked it in liver oil with lower intestinal spices ...
Halibut -- not bad for a stick of butter, but the portion wasn't large enough to keep -- I would have thrown that one back. I've had bigger sardines in a can. ...
Desserts -- redundant reductions; I think they actually brought the plastic desert tray examples rather than the actual deserts -- thank God for the birthday candles and that we didn't add the pricey liquor, although that might have helped with digestion (although the dessert would have insulted the alcohol) ...
Service, we had 2 birthdays that we were celebrating, and they gave us one dessert for free, not two -- even if they were plastiline, it would have been a nice gesture. And yes, we had to ask them for the free dessert -- twice. We assume they were busy spitting in our desserts because it took them so long to bring them. ...
In summary -- hated it. ...
Love the building -- next time I'll pack my lunch, thank you very much.
Awesome atmosphere, average food – Bummer because this place has just an incredible atmosphere, but the food is average at best. We were surprised because we had heard good things, but unfortunately I can't highly recommend this place. Go somewhere else before the show.
A great Friday night out at Cue – A dear old friend of mine came into town from Chicago and wanted to take me out to dinner. He used to live here and wanted to try someplace new. He also recently got a promotion and had money to burn and while I suggested someplace in Uptown, he was curious about Cue. I made a reservation and we went. We arrived early and went up to the Target Lounge (the drinks and food were fine but the service extremely poor - the show had just started and it was dead which might have suggested better service but no) and then went to Cue. My friend talked me into the 5 course meal with matching wines for each course.
I don't eat out a lot as I have been struggling grad student the past three years but I thought the food was delicious - especially with the wine pairing. There was little explanation of what were going to be eating but the service was excellent. Wine always proceeded the course with a nice explanation of the wine, what it was, where it was from. There was a delicious crab appetizer, a tasty salad, a delicious fish dish, great beef dish and a fantastic dessert option and each complimented by the wine.
I am not sure what the total bill was but it was a delicious meal. The room is beautiful and they had live jazz music which was also great. When I made the reservation, I requested a quiet out of the way spot because I knew my friend and I would have a lot to catch up on and we were placed in a perfect spot. I look forward to going back for more wine and great ambiance and live music. I will do it very soon. Thank Cue for a great night out. My friend from Chicago, who is kind of "fancy" was totally impressed with the food and the evening.
A truly lovely evening...despite the bad reviews. – Usually my spouse and I look to Citysearch ratings as our primary guide when we decide where to go on special evenings out, but we both are glad we neglected to use the ratings this time. Our visit to Cue was frankly nothing like most of these reviews have described, and we were shocked to come here and find such mediocre to bad reviews. We found it to be a delightful evening - wonderful service, delicious food with nice presentation, and a fabulous location. To be honest, I tend to be particularly sensitive to snobbish service, and expect a bit of attitude at higher-end establishments, but I thought our service at Cue was truly friendly and sincere. Yes...it was expensive, but compared to other similarly priced restaurants in the Twin Cities, we found our experience at Cue to be among the best. We've made the rounds to reputable restaurants with similar price-points in the Twin Cities and Cue is certainly at least comparable, if not superior to them. Why Palomino receives a 9.3 and Cue receives a 7.2 is beyond me...I had a lovely experience at both restaurants, but Cue far exceeded Palomino in virtually every aspect. So to prospective diners, I guess my advice is to take these reviews and ratings with a hefty grain of sea salt and go ahead and make a reservation for Cue for your special evening out.
