When I first came in to her she gave me a thorough consultation and ended up giving me a complete makeover. I'm a natural brunette (now I'm blonde) and every other stylist that I've ever seen can never get the color right (it's always too ashy) - but Nyssa worked wonders! I highly recommend this beautiful salon!
I've been getting my hair done at Root for over 5 years now and love it. The owner has incredibly high standards and expectations of his staff, and I would trust any one of them to cut and color my har. I could go on and on - friendly staff, CLEAN, and great pricing! Give it a try!
Avoid. See Kimberly P.'s review below. Will not refund if unhappy with service.
Best Salon.
My mom and sister have been going to Kelly for cuts and colors for 3 years now and always look FABULOUS when they return home from the salon. I have been seeing a lady at Juut forever, but I finally decided to come into Root to see what Kelly would do to my hair.... One word, "WOW"!
First of all, the salon is beautiful. They also carry Kerastase products (which is basically the best product line in the world). Kelly did an amazing job with my color and cut! When she sat me down before the color to discuss what I wanted - she had a vision and went for it! I am EXTREMELY satisfied and will be back in 6 weeks!
I would HIGHLY recommend this salon - especially KELLY!
Professional Stylist vs Client.
AlohaMN's review of Justine is EXACTLY WHY I GO TO HER!!!! I was just like her I use to blame my stylist for not following my specific directions, how exactly to cut my hair and how to cover up the greys I have coming through.
First off, you don't tell a plastic surgeon you think you need a tuck here, a pull over there, or I know what looks best. Cause sweetheart, you DO NOT KNOW! Chances are she was doing you a favor and not letting some 40 something women walk around with platinum blonde hair. I learned to understand this isn't just slap some color on and call it good. She took in my face shape, my overall appearance I like to have
It took me 5 different salons telling the stylists what I NEED/WANT before I came back to Justine, it made me realize I know nothing about coloring or cutting hair. She absolutely did what was best for my thick hair and my somewhat receding hairline/slight grey.
I use to complain she would make my hair to dark and to 'fake'. I use to say she was doing it all wrong (again cause I was the professional?). After the HORRID experiences I had at other salons I realized she knew what I truly needed, not what I thought I wanted.
That day came where I came back with my tail in between my legs and realized she knew best, she was the professional not me!
Alohamn I am sorry to hear you are to thin skinned to take a professionals opinion on how you look, I am sure when you are walking around and NOBODY comments on how your 'cool tones' and 'cool blonde' look you won't have to wonder why!
2 sides to every coin. Ouch, after that review I felt obligated to share my experience, it's only fair. I've been going to Justine forever and every time I leave, I feel like a rock star. It takes awhile to build a style and relationship with your stylist and there have been times where we were close but not there yet, I'm ok with this. I enjoy the process of experimenting and learning what works for me. Justine makes this part fun for me. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Best salon in the Twin Cities!. Best cuts in town. Have always had a wonderful experience at Root. Have had my hair colored by experts in the field and have always been happy with the results at Root. I have finally found THE salon for all my needs. Root is truly a warm and comfortable atmosphere in one of the coolest locations in St. Paul.
Can not recommend. I have never written a review but after a bad experience I felt obligated to warn others to steer clear of this salon. I had my hair cut and colored by Justine, hoping to have an excellent outcome being that she recently won best Twin Cities hair colorist . I had very specific instructions of what I wanted, we looked at pictures of cool tones with cool blonde highlights and sadly the color turned out way too dark with reddish brassy highlights. I specifically asked for cool tones, with cool blonde highlights.I am not sure where things went wrong. So I returned to have my hair corrected by Justine and now my hair is carmel, reddish and brassy. I again stressed that I wanted cool tones only, no red, warm tones. She instisted that I needed warm tones. I am very upset and have asked for a refund to have it color-corrected at another salon. The manager Jenna and owner Jim refuse to refund and only offer to have me come in to have it corrected. No Thank You! Please save yourself and your hair, do not go here.
Liz is Fantastic. I came back to the Twin Cities after living on the West Coast, and of course one of my first issues was finding a hair stylist. I looked on the internet and tried a few of their suggestions for "the best" and came away disappointed and out a lot of money. I finally asked my cousin where she got her haircut (one I admired) and she told me "Liz" at Root Salon. Well, I went in December and LOVED my cut. I had brought some photos of styles I liked, and she suggested a slight variation which looked great. I also told her I wasn't one for styling with round brushes and spending a lot of time on my hair, and that I preferred to finger dry my hair. Her cut turned out wonderful! I have gotten tons of compliments, and styling my short hairstyle is a breeze. I'm going back at the end of the month for my second cut, and am so happy to have found Liz!!!!
Not worth the $50. I think the headline says it all. My haircut wasn't quite what I wanted and is really, really average.
