Wonderful food. What's better than enjoying a fish taco on the shore of lake Calhoun? Nothing. Excellent food (the bulk of these recipes come from the original Tin Fish in San Diego) and a fun format (you place your order at a walk-up window, then they call out your name when it's done) make for an excellent lunch or dinner. I look forward to it every summer.
Famous for its delicious and unique fish tacos, the Tin Fish turns the Lake Calhoun pavilion into a seaside cafe..
In Short
Located in the Calhoun Beach Club pavilion, the Tin Fish is like an open-air West Cost seafood joint. That's because the Tin Fish started in So Cal's San Diego, and has since birthed a handful of locations that boast the same great menu you'd find at a breezy, oceanside stand. Here, lake-goers, runners, bikers and dancing kids lounge in Adirondack chairs and lakeside tables as they munch on fish tacos and sandwiches decorated with Tin Fish's homemade salsa and hot sauce. With the cawing seagulls and the sweet lake breeze, you can close your eyes and pretend you're down in Baja.
wonderful gem on Lake Calhoun. This is the greatest little place I've run across in awhile. Right on Lake Calhoun with a glorious view, it is an amazing little gem that reminds me of some of the walk up window places along the coast in California. I didn't know it was here until a colleague of my husbands told us about it. I have had several different fish selections and they are all wonderful. My husband loves the fish tacos. My favorite is the walleye fish and chips. It attracts a very diverse crowd. Men in business suits, moms with strollers, motor cyclists, families, etc. It is a great spot for everyone. My only regret is that it is outdoor only so you have to wait for spring to visit. Oh, the coleslaw accompaniment is very good too. A fun spot. I love it.
Great place to take your out-of-town visitors!!!. While walking around Lake Calhoun one evening, I stopped for a bottle of water at what I thought was the hot dog stand in the pavilion. I found myself looking at an extensive seafood menu with very reasonable prices. Since discovering this little gem on the lake, I have taken my husband, all my friends and every out-of-town guest I've had this summer to the Tin Fish. Every single person has had a great meal and loved sitting beside the lake to enjoy it. I will be waiting all winter for it to re-open next summer. This place is such a find! I highly recommend the seafood tacos (especially shrimp or mahi mahi), the crabcakes and the shrimp cocktail (the freshest I've ever had). Stay away from the non-seafood items such as the quesadillas and the burgers.
