Editorial Review for Matty B's Supper Club – by Melissa Colgan
In Short
Dark mahogany and cherry woodwork, dim lighting and wafting smells of grilled steaks and buttered potatoes harkens back to a '50s supper club. St. Paul politicians, media personalities and sports figures sink into the deep leather banquets for entrees of sautéed garlic walleye and aged broiled-top sirloin. The large tables attract both business deals and familial celebrations, while bar patrons take an Old Forester and regal in light jazz and montages of classic St. Paul.

We made reservations for Matty B's for dinner before the Wild game. I decided to check the reviews on the web and was disturbed to see that they were not highly recommended. However the six of us decided to try it. Don't believe the poor reviews. The food and service were excellent. In fact the walleye fish fry was hot and fresh. The halibut was superb. And the service was great. We will be back. Thanks for a great time. PS: the Wild won in overtime against the AV's.
Pros: Food and Service
Cons: none

My husband insisted that we try Matty B's. So we scheduled reservations for a time after the Wild Hockey crowd cleared out. Still the service was terrible; extremely slow and inattentive. I couldn't figure it out because there was hardly anybody left in the restaurant. They ran out of the chicken entree. My husband said his meatloaf was very good so that was the highlight of the evening. My mother (from out of town) and I ordered chicken chili only to find mostly beans and no chicken . I don't know why but the soup was so hot it took a long time before we could cool it down. If you are willing to put up with lousy service but love meatloaf...I would recommend Matty B's. Otherwise, we won't be back.
Pros: Good Meatloaf
Cons: Lousy Service
