Tips for Amazing Thailand

February 11, 2013

BEWARE... You're camera at all points of the restaurant. Yes, video cameras are all over the restaurant and in the front door looking outside. Not sure why this restaurant owner/manager installed so many cameras..

Let's just say, you're been watched from a distant/remote site... I hope they don't have a camera in the restroom...That would not be very good business...

Food – ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS, Service – HORRIBLE

Price – If you want to pay for décor, ambience, go ahead $$$, else – stay the hell away.

1. The ‘TOM YAM SOUP’ soup is a perfect example. Absolutely diluted so much coconut milk (menu says cream and it’s normally a dash and not to be bathed as they do here); it comes off as a poor man’s hot and sour soup with milk thereby displaying an oil-water-scummy combinatory sight. I don’t think I need to elaborate upon the taste. Let’s leave it as ‘ten times worse than heavily watered, cream of mushrooms with vinegar and a sticky sweet licorice aftertaste’.

2. ‘THE WALLEYE’ is crisp as stated in the menu – the kind of crispness you can get from sun dried leather and soaked gummy cardboard. And these were ordered with a high level of spice to ensure some semblance of taste but to no effect.

3. And to add insult upon injury, the service was horrible. When it comes to service, apart from courtesy, cute talk and all – the most critical aspect is the duration between the order and delivery – which in this case was 38 minutes on a week day evening with full staff. Any enquiry with the service leads to the following (in any combination);

a. Most know diddly-squat of anything remotely Thai – not even the basics of what is printed in the menu leading to either a regurgitation of B.S information is provided (saying a lot which makes no sense) or trips to the kitchen to disappear for inordinate periods of time.

b. The ability to even make an enquiry depends on the patron’s skill-sit on keep tabs when the specific server passes where they scramble so fast (still doing no food delivery) but somehow seem to skip your table. Case in point – a coke refill 8 minutes later was the first instance an enquiry could be made).

c. And if you flag down any of the other servers to circumvent this wait, the response is incomprehensible as the person doesn’t even understand the question (which is way worse than sub point a. above). The patron could be very well speaking in another language when the question was related to the spice sauces on the table to which the answer was a few mumbles and dash to the kitchen to be never seen again. (That must be one cavernous kitchen indeed).

All in all, we were so fed up that we got the food boxed (after inordinate waiting period), paid the damned bill, took the food to the garbage dump to the right of the hotel and dumped it there. (There was no option of getting a manager as that would require to play the same ‘waiting-and-hopefully-baiting’ the server /anyone else which would require another 15 minutes and in turn would’ve escalated the already frayed tempers in the table.

VERDICT – Personally, there is nothing that will make us ever return to this restaurant ever and I will ensure that this is made aware to as many in my professional/personal circle as possible.

Amazing Thailand. I have to say I was quite impressed with this place. We went here for my birthday and the minute we walked in the door everyone was in awe of the decor. We ordered some egg rolls and they were at the table in three minutes, specially made with no meat. The menu had huge selection and worked for both me, a vegetarian and my mom who is gluten free. You could also order your food with the level of spice you choose so no one was overwhelmed and everyone satisfied. The food came in gigantic proportions and it was all amazingly good. The waitress was very kind, swift and helpful.

Service upgraded, food still great. Despite all the terrible reviews on the service, I almost dreaded coming to the restaurant. However, when I arrived the restaurant was nearly half full for dinner service. The waiter was helpful and recommended several dishes for us. To be fair, I think the server spent a fair amount of time on our table of four.

The food is AMAZINGLY cheap for excellent Thai food! An entree easily feeds 2-3 for about $12 a dish. I have been to Thailand several times, and I can say for sure that this is one of the closest 'Thai style' foods you can get in Minnesota. The style of cooking is reluctant to Bangkok.

We had the Pad Thai Chicken, Tom Kha Shrimp, Red Curry, and a few $3 Happy hour appetizers. The taste brings me back to Thailand Bangkok without having to fly there. I can gurantee you that the chefs here know what they are doing and have tasted food from Bangkok!

I will be back! Thank you Amazing Thailand for the excellent food!

Absoulte shite service. I have been the Amazing Thai about half a dozen times in the last year. The first 3-4 times everything was great other than mediocre service. I can live with that when it comes to sharing a $10 serving of Tom Yum and drinking $3 Belgian Brunettes. My last two visits however (especially this one tonight 26 July 2010) the service was horrible to put it mildly. My flatmate and I got a seat out front around 8PM as usual. The waitress came out about five minutes later and took reorders for drinks of the table further down. Looked over, saw us, and went back inside. She came back out five minutes later with the other tables drinks, looked over at us, and one again went back inside. My flatmate than went inside, told the hostess we had been waiting over ten minutes for service. She came out straight away with menus, and stated the server would be with us shortly, and was very polite. Shortly never happened. About fifteen minutes later the waitress FINALLY mad another appearance, only to yet AGAIN go over to the previous table to take another drinks order and ignored us. After 30+ minutes of wasted time we left. I don't care how good the food, drink selection, and prices are, with service like that Amazing Thai will never see a single red cent from my pocket again.

Thank God for Amazing Thailand. A great place for Happy Hour. In the age of chain restaurants AT still remains. Coconut milk is refreshing, spring rolls good and Pad Thai is delicious.. We ask for extra veggies... Try it out, great neighborhood retreat from the suburb type restaurants in the area.

Nothing amazing about it. Went with a friend who recommended Amazing Thailand.

Food was cold, waited 15 minutes for drinks and about 45 min food (what we ordered wasn't even complete), server was too busy with other things and forgot we were there several times.

The place was dead. My friend and myself could not believe the lack of service.

I wouldn't go back to this place ever again. There are so many other thai restaurants in Minneapolis...

Great Happy Hour, but..... I can't give more than 1 star for one of these places that has a happy hour where "rail drinks" are $3, but then charge me $3.50 for a screwdriver just because it has orange juice in it! (Especially when I pointed to the $3 rail on the happy hour menu and said "I'll take a screwdriver for $3, right?)

It is really "amazing". I have been there a couple times now and every time I go it is even better than the time before. they have a dish called the rainbow combination. It has tons of veggies red/green peppers, onions, mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, and the cutest little baby corns :) You have the option to add more or take away something that is the part I like about it. You also get to add a meat to it. Honestly you get so much with it you could almost share with a friend or your partner. Also the kids menu is awesome, I can buy 1 meal and split it with 2 kids. Again you get a alot of food for the reasonable price. I would recommend this restaurant if you like Thai food or if you just want to try something new

Bad manners.. I emailed this place three times, trying to get reservations

( I am in afghanistan and wanted to celebrate my welcome home party here) one of my emails was directly to the company and the other two were through Citysearch. I find it very odd that in the year 2009 this place doesnt check the inbox or respond to thier customers!! wow... I emailed "Max" rest. in downtown and 6 hrs later had a table and a wonderful message from the manager assuring it would be the "best table" they had for my special party.
