Woodbury >Sushi Tango Woodbury
GRRRR this place Sucks. I hate to leave a bad review for any restaurant but this place deserves it. I decided to take some out of town investors and business partners here for dinner. when we first entered the restaurant it was way to dark we could barely see our menu's. after being seated we were given menus by the host about 15 MINUTES later the server shows up and takes or drink order. we asked the server what kind of fresh fish was in and if she had any recomendations. she recommended the Toro (of course) we asked what kind of TORO it was she promptly said "I dont know" then she went to ask the chef..the chef looked over at us and and told the server that they no longer had anymore toro in stock knowing that we know our sushi. that being said we continued to order our sushi to which our server told us was all fresh and not frozen. one we got our order about 35-45 minutes later the Salmon looked ok but smelled a little fishy the tune was definately frozen and so was the hamachi. the rolls were way over sauced to cover up the bad fish. needless to say the horrible experience did not end there.. they also refused to split our tab WTF.. they couldnt split the tab but could run 2 different credit cards. I was so embarassed by th the horrible service and food that I had to take my investers out to minneapolis for chinese after we ate there.. sushi tango dinner 80 buck.. chinese dinner 40 bucks having a horrible experience and never coming back to sushi tango Priceless....I am so irritated at this place that I am actually writing this out in my car on my phone.....
Service was refused..
I went to sushi tango hoping it would be a good experience. I've been to the one in uptown and Loved it, so I thought the woodbury location would be as good. When I first entered, I was seated promptly. I got there at 2:50pm. I asked about the happy hour and she said it was 2-6pm and I told her we had a restaurant com coupon. She said I can't use it on happy hour or specials. I already knew when I got there that I couldn't use it on any of those so I just said OK.
I didn't know that Lunch was done at 3:00 pm so when I asked her at 3:05 pm she said I can only order dinner after 3. THANKS FOR THE HEADS UP. Also I ordered pork katsu for dinner and my wife ordered 9 1/2 roll. We were the only ones in the restaurant and then at 3:10 pm 2 people came in and ordered sushi. My pork katsu came at 3:20pm promptly after giving me soup and salad AT THE SAME TIME. I have eaten a lot of katsu from other restaurants and I can only say their food is mediocre. The ginger sauce that came with my vegetables was quite good. But the breading they use isn't very good.
First if you get appetizers, you get miso soup first, then when your finished you get salad. I work at a sushi/hibachi/teppenyaki place and that's how it always goes.
The 2 people that ordered sushi got their sushi at 3:20pm when my pork katsu came out. Also at 3:13pm we ordered a spicy salmon roll. We got our sushi at 3:32pm and when I asked my server why our sushi came late, she said, "the sushi chef, he... I don't know" and WALKED AWAY!!!
When I asked if I could put the happy hour sushi on a separate bill, she said, I can't do that. After that I was a bit irritated, because I know every restaurant allows people to split checks and put things on other bills. So when I asked her again, she said, I can't do that, the manager told me not to. When I asked if there is a manager I could talk to, she said there was none and she was the only staff there to help me. LUCKY ME! So when I called the manager at the uptown woodbury, he said they allowed for split checks and also that I should have been able to eat lunch menu. She said "I cannot make another check for you to order happy hour food." So I couldn't eat more when I had to leave to WORK. I was starving at work. So I had my work make me some sushi.
Server's name was KANG or KHANG. She is Hmong and the owners are Hmong. She is Short, stout and has a short haircut. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. And she understands English enough to tell me I can't split my check or make a new check for my happy hour foods. (the manager thought she couldn't speak English)
I called the manager and he said he'd call me back and made excuses for her such as, maybe she doesn't speak english well or another manager saying, maybe she didn't understand. When she says "I can't make another check for you to order happy hour food because the manager told me not to." She understood exactly what I wanted and REFUSED to give me service.
(uses 80% real crab legs, 20% imitation crab.)
Good quality fish, split service.. I've eaten sushi in several major cities include Tokyo and new York. Food quality was good, roll prep was ok -- a little loosely rolled. Presentation was great considering location. Service was mixed. Quick to seat slow to produce menu and take order. Ordered miso, Average quality. Very large bowl. But also slow to serve. Ordered roll with chef. It came out in better than average time. Hadn't finished soup yet. All in all, not bad. Average to very good in total.
Good Value. While living in Woodbury it was great to have a Sushi Tango so close. The happy hour here is very good and the sushi always tastes great. Great service, great atmosphere.
Fresh Sushi good prices.
We've been going to this sushi restaurant for the last year to meet friends on Friday nights. I'm perplexed by the poor reviews from 07 and early 08 but can only guess they were issues surrounding opening a new business. We have always had good and prompt service, the sushi is always fresh and not fishy/dry, and the sushi chef(s) are helpful and will help you select new things to try. The regular menu selection is extensive and would probably take a couple years worth of visits to work through. They have happy hour (I believe after 9pm every day) sushi and drink specials.
On the flip side their decor is not the best I've ever seen but as previous reviewers have stated, there is only so much you can do with a strip mall retail space. My only other complaint is they seem either unwilling or unable to split a bill up so you are left spending 10 minutes working out the bill and splitting it up yourself at the table which is annoying.
Overall after visiting this restaurant no less than 25 times in the past year I'd say that they are consistently good.
okay to eat if your in a rush. Im new to sushi, I was introduced about a month ago. I first tried sushi at Akita, it was amazing!! I was in a hurry one day and decided to swing into Sushi Tango. It wasnt good! :( It was really fishy tasting. Definatly will be going to Akita from now on until I find something better!!!
Lack of Hand-Washing.
I like Sushi Tango's sushi, but I recently witnessed something that will cause me not go back. I stopped in for some sushi during happy hour (shortly after 9 PM) and my seat was facing the bathroom hallway. Three, count them THREE male employees used the restroom in a period of about 20 minutes and DID NOT wash their hands. Now, I cannot prove this, of course, because I am a woman and was not in the restroom. But, hearing the urinal/toilet flushing and then seeing the door of a single-person restroom immediately open is usually a good indication that someone has not washed their hands.
Icky, gross and beware.
Friendly Service and Really Fine Food. This place is worth trying! The establishment is nestled between several fast food places - so face it, it's hard to offer upscale decore in a strip mall. However, I really enjoy the sushi! The servers have always been polite to me and the food is well prepared. I've had the sushi at Kowalski's and Byerly's and this is better. Perhaps the restaurant had a slow start (Jan. reviews) but they are always concerned about whether or not I am pleased with an entree and will offer to adjust menu items to satisfy a customer's preferences. I like Sushi Tango - it offers a great and healthy alternative to so many of the other food choices in the area. They also make anything on their menu to go, which is a nice feature.
Fun and great food!!!!. We arrived at the restaurant and were greeted by a hurried waitress. We asked for seats at the sushi bar. We were given water and waited a short time to speak to the sushi chef. the fishmongers were engaging and funny. Good spirited and made us feel welcome. there were some people next to us who were sheepish about the food and the chefs coaxed them into trying some new things, all in all the sushi bar was a fun and relaxed place to be and have dinner. I have eaten sushi for some 25years all over the country and found their to be as good as it gets. I realy liked their rolls!!!!.
Awesome Oysters. The only downfall about this place is that it's too small! I read 3 other comments about this place and none of them had anything nice about the restuarant. The food is great, service is great too! You have to be respectful as well to recieve good service. All I have to say is that the OYSTERS are the best ever, I love the sauce...trust me you won't go wrong with this! It's worth the money and wait...I have always done it and will continue to do so.
