What People Are Saying About Common Roots Cafe
Featured Review

In Short – The first thing you notice about this Uptown café is the abundance of laptops: Sliver ones, white ones, big black ones; they all become breakfast, lunch and dinner companions at tables filled with everything from grass-fed all-beef hamburgers to organic scrambled eggs to glasses of beer and wine. In fact, this brightly lit and activity-buzzing café is one of the few places in town that doubles as hangout spot for the telecmmuting crowd and a date and dinner spot for night crawlers. Everything at Common Roots is home-made and fair-trade, which are just a couple of…
Editor's Tips
- Savey Money:
- Get in on the community vibe early with happy hours that include $3 pints and $3.50 glasses of wine from 4-pm Monday through Friday.
- The Extras:
- Common Roots has a fabulous patio for people-watching, working and dining.
- When to Go:
- Enjoy affordable, smaller-plate specials on offer from 4pm till close. Prices for these dishes are around $7. The menu changes seasonally, as the owner tries to keep most everything local, organic and fair trade. But winter specials include sweet potato gnocchi, ginger-cashew and turkey wontons and a sun-dried tomato tartlet.
- What to Order:
- Common Roots might be known for its veggie options, but meat lovers know where to go for one of the best Jucy Lucys in town. Called the "Rootsy Lucy," the Common Roots version is made from organic beef and is stuffed with aged cheddar and topped with heirloom tomatoes. It's an upscale version that loses none of the famous burger's hard-to-top excess.

great hanng out place
by Mary21 at Citysearch
I love this place. It's a wonderful spot to hang out with friends. I am recently sober, and find it hard to hang out with my frinds at bars, so instead I come here to relax and hang out.
I have never noticed poor service- but I read the reviews on here. Actually- to be honest - if the staff had a bad attuitude, I don't think I would notice - I'm not really there for them anyway.
- Pros: wonderful spot for friends!
- Cons: I have to pay for stuff.
nice place, below average service

The food is yummy. It is a shame the waitstaff aren't pleasant. It affects the vibe. On more than one occasion the staff seems like they don't want to be bothered taking orders from customers. Weird.
- Pros: good food
- Cons: poor service

The atmosphere is relaxing and trendy. The food and drinks are wonderful. Everything about my experience was great except the service. Staff was not friendly or accommodating.
- Pros: Trendy, good food, great coffee
- Cons: Rude employees
My favorite local hang-out

I regularly go here for oatmeal on the go in the morning, and a sandwich for dinner with friends. Very friendly service and the food is quite good. They've got a great selection of veggie food and teas.
I've found Sunday morning and afternoons to be a bit crowded for my tastes, but the evenings are great. Hurray for Common Roots!
- Pros: Great service, Veggie Food, Local Food
- Cons: Very busy on Sundays
