Edina >Via Cafe & Bar
Excellent Service, Mediocre food, Ridiculous prices. My wife and I recently had dinner at Via, and I couldn't be more disappointed. Dinner started with a bitter and watery Mojito. The waitress was kind enough not to charge me for it, and replace it with a beer. We had the artichoke and spinach dip, which was huge, and the only thing worth the price on the menu. My wife ordered the greek salad, and I had the steak salad. Her salad smelled so foul it made me lose my appetite, which was good because aside from the mound of lettuce, there was very little steak in my steak salad. Four tiny little slices of meat next to a mountain of field greens and huge chunks of blue cheese. For $18 I was expecting a little more meat. My wife also mentioned that the greek salad is better at Panera. Overall, the food was nothing special, and worth no where near what they're charging for it.
We went to dinner there, mainly, given the great location to Southdale and the theaters. This restaurant is nothing but a glorified Applebees and quite frankly, I prefer Applebees and TGI Fridays more. I cannot believe this place is in the same vicinity as Crave and even PF Changs... I agree that it has no business being in business and I'm sure it won't be long before it closes. The waitress was an airhead and smelled like a cigarette tray. She had more makeup on than anything I've seen in a long time. Worse, our order was wrong and she sent the Manager over to our table to correct it/apologize. The Manager opened his mouth and I swear, we almost lost our lunch and dinner! He has the worst teeth and even he smelled like a cigarette butt. I couldn't believe it! Honestly, we were beside ourselves that this restaurant had such unprofessional looking people working there. Our food was cold, our drinks were scarce and the overall service was quick, impersonal, and very lazy.
The owners were in having dinner or something to eat when we were there. Apparently they get a special menu - it looked better than our food! In a nutshell, you're better off going to the mall - We cannot wait until McCormick and Schmick's opens up - Finally a classy dinner spot for adults!
Until then, save your money for M & S and don't waste your time at Via. What a waste.
Best place to eat and meet in Edina!. I don't know what this other reviewer was trying to say but I got to tell you this is the best thing that has happened to Edian in a very long time. I can take my family, friends and business all to the same place. The service has always been great and I love the food. There is always good parking and the outdoor patio and bar is the best I have seen in Minnesota.
Great Experience. My inlaws were in town and we took them to Via. All six of us really enjoyed our meal and felt the service was great. We will definetely be back.
disasterous review. Being there was an error on the page when trying to respond to the first review, I had to respond this way. I was looking for a place to bring some girlfriends for a fun dinner but after reading that review, I will definitely not be making reservations there. I really hope you complained to management about their service. I would really like to try the restaurant but won't be going anytime soon until they've turned it around!
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!. A friend and I decided to try Via one evening given it's convenience to Southdale mall. Upon arrival, I thought we would have an upscale sit down meal. However, the moment the hostess escorted us to our table I know we were doomed. The hostess didn't even speak to us and pointed us to our table and left! Then, the staff who was supposed to distribute bread baskets walked around haphazardly and put baskets on random tables (we didn't receive bread until we asked for it!). Then, our waitress brought me a beverage and the glass had caked on lipstick around the rim - how disgusting! The waitress also called me "honey" and "sweetie," despite me being senior to her. The meal was poor, and the salad I received prior to the main course was pathetic. It was basically a tomato, strips of bacon, and a wedge of iceberg lettuce smeared w/ too much dressing. At the end of the meal, I ordered a coffee because we were seated by the door and a very cold draft resulted in my shivering throughout the meal. The waitress even acknowledged that it was cold at our table but did nothing about it! THE COFFEE WAS THE WORST OF ALL! Hard to believe, I know. As I neared the botttom of the mug, I drank a mouthful of coffee grind! The bottom fourth of the glass was coffee grind. I had to "discard" this out into my napkin and for the rest of the evening I was picking out grime between my teeth. I highly doubt this restaurant will survive......You're better off waiting for a table at a mall restaurant than wasting your money and time here.
Finish a day of shopping at nearby Southdale with a relaxing and delicious meal..
This brand new upscale casual eatery (from the ashes of an old Pizzeria Uno) is sleek and inviting with dark wood and maroon-colored accents. The bar is big, but the seating allows you a chance for nice conversation. Elegant patio dining adds to the ambience. The varied menu runs the gamut from traditional American favorites such as New York strip to Asian delights such as crab wontons. Save room for dreamy dessert, chocolate fondue for two.
