A likely neighborhood staple, throwback to hair of the 80's

by aspoon

Good people working there, neighborhood feel. Extremely bad hair care in this salon. While visiting family, I went with my 2 girls to get there hair "cool colored" (streaks of pink, teal) in their hair. I also hope to squeeze in a trim (wash/cut/dry). Upon going in, the average age of clients was at least 4-5 decades older. As my girls were fortunate to happen upon Bethany, a young stylist, I breathed a bit of relief. The cool color streaks took a long time to do, but I didn't realize it was a two process step. The girls looks relieved that their colors came out great. Bethany is a sweet girl who knows her cool colors for sure.... Bethany's next customer was yours truly and I actually believed she would do a great job...Summary - she totally lacked ability to cut and style. I asked only for a trim of 1 inch off the bottom of my hair, I wanted was the dry ends off. Barely taper around the face as it was, barely trim the long bangs. Simply put, just follow the lines.....

Voila-the worse haircut of my life from a very simple instruction.

Even in a pony-tail, there was a chunk of hair that was 2 inches longer than the rest of my hair. I couldn't even find the words to describe it. My hair was thick on the side that has less hair (where the part was) and thin and frizzed out on the other side with layers that were never there to begin with.

I'll call it "my lesson".

I will not stray from hairstylists who actually use brushes and hair products that are good for hair, smell fresh.

I won't go to hairstylist who immediately upon cutting put styling (?) aerosol that actually has lacquer in actually smells like barf.

Every head in there, barring a few gentlemen who actually looked very good and my two cool colored girls, left with over processed hair that had little or no shine, and not much health left in them.

They need to update their actual USE OF PRODUCTS (not just display them), make sure their associates actually have their own equipment/scissors/dryers/clean implements, appropriate and clean brushes.

Get some youth in there, get some more education about haircare today and don't rely on the old school harsh chemicals to destroy the heads of the wonderful group of patrons they do have going in.

I love visiting here and think the people are pretty awesome. They have a right to demand good hair care and products that help them feel more confident about themselves.

After reviewing my results, and even worse, seeing the choppy ponytail (now in a bun, with a nice lacquer sheen to it), I called the salon to try to get it fixed. With a bit of gentle haggling (and a bad connection), they offer to fix it for me later in the evening (I'm going out, can't do) of 10 am. After agreeing to 10 a.m., they hung up rather quickly. With the bluntness, I called back and cancelled.

Why go back to where they messed up poorly in the first place? To have shorter, badly cut and styled hair?

I will wait until I return home to return to my hairdresser solemnly wearing a bun. I do recommend that when you review places like this because you have been with a hairdresser for 30 years, doesn't make him/her good. Haircare has changed dramatically. In order to get new patrons, you've got to be current and good. Their prices are extremely reasonable and I see that as a tremendous foothold in the business. I wish Bethany well, too! She has a talent for color and and eye for style. It just, during the busyness of the colors or whatever reasons, never got connected to her scissors this day....

Best Haircut, Color and Style in Years!

by aejunge

I was recommended to Nikki by a co-worker and was not disappointed. After getting a bad color and cut from a previous hair salon, I was a little nervous. Nikki was fantastic! I received the best haircut, color and style in years. I was so happy that I didn't have to go home and wash it out right away! I wanted to go out and party on the town. Thanks Nikki! I will definately be back in 5 weeks :) Amy

Brenda Is the Best!

by I Love To Drive

I started going to Brenda in May, 1974, (36 1/2 years ago). A friend of mine had been going to her and recommended her to me. She was working at a salon in Brooklyn Park, which is where I lived at the time, so it was very convenient. I had hair down to the middle of my back and wanted a change, so I decided to go SHORT. (I was the talk of the salon that evening!) Brenda did an awesome job then, and still does today - actually, I'd have to say she does a better job today - she's improved with age!!! :D I have lived in Elk River for 34 of those 36 years, and have followed Brenda from that salon in Brooklyn Park to Salon Marquee, and everywhere in between. We have developed a very special friendship over the past 36 years, not only in our "professional lives;" but, our personal lives, too. I trust her with with every hair on my head!!! I have always gotten compliments on my hair; both from people I know and complete strangers! The entire staff at Salon Marquee is wonderful! I feel like I'm among good friends when I'm there, because everyone is always so upbeat and cheerful, and we have a fun time; I look forward to my visits there. The only thing that could be better, would be if Salon Marquee opened a salon in Elk River and Brenda worked there!!!

great hair day!!!!!

by just judy

I have been going to Salon Marquee for 3 years or so, I travel from the Dayton/ Otsego area. I feel so pampered from the time I arrive until I leave. I love the hot drinks I am offered, and freshened as I relax. I love laying down as my hair is washed, it's a treat in it self. I see Nikki most of the time but have tried others. Nikki suggests cuts and color and I am never disappointed, even when trying something new. I always get noticed after visiting Nikki, she recently suggested the Moroccan oil, I've used it for the last 21/2 months. People have complimented my shiny hair more now than ever. Thanks Nikki and Salon Marquee.I look forward to my August appointment!!

Disappointment

by annaFromMN

I live in Rogers, MN, but made a long drive to Salon Marquee, because of all the great reviews on the Internet. Here is my experience with it:

First of all, during my long two and a half hours visit there I didn’t see any clients who were younger than their sixties. And now I can clearly see why.

Second, when I now read carefully all these glorious reviews, they sound as if they are written by the one person – same words and expressions. They don’t even sound real, more like advertisements. No other salon has anywhere close that many wonderful reviews, and there are many good salons in Twin Cities. The majority of their clientele – older ladies, don’t even do reviews on the Internet all that often. I have no doubts now that many of these reviews are fabricated and false.

I had an appointment with Nikki. I brought a picture of the hair style that I planned for to an appointment: medium length hair cut, dark brown color, few blond highlights here and there. Same as what I usually do and nothing extraordinary! When Nikki was finished drying my hair after color and haircut, I observed in terror that the whole top of my head was bright yellow. She not only greatly overdid it with timing, but there was not a hint of light streaks among dark color, it was all light. Nikki agreed that this doesn’t look like anything on the picture.

They offered me corrective color. Oh boy, I guess I just don’t learn… I agreed. After 10 minutes of sitting with a corrective toner, my hair emerged… red. It was dark red on the bottom of my hair and light red on top, where my so-called highlights were supposed to be.

I asked for my money back. They offered me another color correction instead. This time I learned. And refused. Nowhere during the extensive discussion of my predicament with owner of the salon was I offered an apology. And she refused to return my money, even though I explained very intelligibly why I can’t let anybody at this salon get anywhere near my hair anymore.

So here I am with bad haircut and by far the worst hair color I have ever had, minus almost 200 hundred dollars (they are expensive!).

I believe you are much safer doing your hair at Fantastic Sams. Even Sams offer color guarantee and for three times cheaper! I can’t believe how supposedly upscale Salon Marquee can be so greedy and not responsible for their low quality services.
