Finger-licking ribs this good just can't be Northern barbecue..
The Scene
Eat at one of Famous Dave's restaurants, and you'll leave convinced that the Mason-Dixon line has moved up to somewhere around Saskatchewan. The weathered-looking wooden walls of Dave's shacks are decked out with roadside signs and cute pig paintings. You stand in line to order, then take a numbered wooden pig to your table so that the server can find you.
The Food
The sandwiches and platters (including Texas beef brisket and North Carolina chopped pork) are tasty, but don't leave without ordering a mess of St. Louis-style ribs, sticky with Dave's own award-winning sauce and so tender that there'll be nothing left for your cat to gnaw on. Dave's side dishes are supreme, too: thick, potatoey shack fries (skip ketchup and dip them in Dave's sauce); corn-bread muffins sweet enough for dessert; meaty, spicy Wilbur beans; creamy coleslaw; and corn on the cob so juicy it'll squirt you in the eye like a grapefruit.
