The Scene – Big and grandiose, with antiques and high ceilings covered with the original tin panels. There's a large sitting area with comfortable chairs in front of a massive fireplace. When it's warm, sit outside on the lavish patio overlooking the St. Croix River. The staff is helpful and always smiling. Since the hotel itself is small, the typical bustle is absent. – – The Details – The rooms have rich brocade wallpaper, antique furnishings and still more high ceilings. This place smells. It is run down. The furniture is uncomfortable. The dining room service at breakfast was really bad. It is noisy in the rooms on the river side due to traffic crossing to and from Wisconsin on the adjacent street. On the flip side, the river side has a nice view of the St. Croix Valley and it is cool to look at the bridge. The hot tub was great too. This would be a great place to stuff the rooms with drunken frat boys. But if you're celebrating your anniversary, you'll need a good divorce attorney.
- Pros: Pub
- Cons: Smelly, run down, poor service

The Water Street is perfect for a weekend getaway. The location is the best aspect about it. You can walk the river in the morning, shop in the afternoon and live the night life, all right outside the doors of the hotel. It is slightly over priced but its is a fair trade for the location. Dinner was average but the service overall was great. My favorite..... the Irish Pub located in the hotel with excellent live Irish music.
- Pros: location, unique feel
- Cons: slightly overpriced
decent room for $95, but not $230

The restaurant was super - both pasta dishes we had were superb! The room was way overpriced. It needed a lot of repairs: paint, cleaning, etc.. It was an odd mix of old and new, so the full ambience was hard to get. Very sparsely furnished. Very noisy - party in room next with slamming doors went well past 4am - not exactly romantic. The lobby was very nice, but the room was a dissapointment. So, I would recommend the restaurant, but for $230 you can find a MUCH nicer room elsewhere.
- Pros: food! excellent
- Cons: room disappointing, needed paint and repairs, noisy
