Editorial Review for Water Street Inn – by Greg Giles
The Scene
Big and grandiose, with antiques and high ceilings covered with the original tin panels. There's a large sitting area with comfortable chairs in front of a massive fireplace. When it's warm, sit outside on the lavish patio overlooking the St. Croix River. The staff is helpful and always smiling. Since the hotel itself is small, the typical bustle is absent.
The Details
The rooms have rich brocade wallpaper, antique furnishings and still more high ceilings. The decor may be bold for some tastes, but it certainly exudes luxury. All rooms have whirlpools; some have fireplaces, some balconies. Suites are mammoth. The Grand Baron suites are perhaps the best value, with two rooms each the size of a standard hotel room. Furnishings are plush and comfortable.

The Water Street is perfect for a weekend getaway. The location is the best aspect about it. You can walk the river in the morning, shop in the afternoon and live the night life, all right outside the doors of the hotel. It is slightly over priced but its is a fair trade for the location. Dinner was average but the service overall was great. My favorite..... the Irish Pub located in the hotel with excellent live Irish music.
Pros: location, unique feel
Cons: slightly overpriced

The restaurant was super - both pasta dishes we had were superb! The room was way overpriced. It needed a lot of repairs: paint, cleaning, etc.. It was an odd mix of old and new, so the full ambience was hard to get. Very sparsely furnished. Very noisy - party in room next with slamming doors went well past 4am - not exactly romantic. The lobby was very nice, but the room was a dissapointment. So, I would recommend the restaurant, but for $230 you can find a MUCH nicer room elsewhere.
Pros: food! excellent
Cons: room disappointing, needed paint and repairs, noisy
