It was very cozy with the wood stove burning in the evening after skiing at Wild River State Park. Being served a delicious breakfast in our private suite was the highlight of the stay. We didn't have any encounters with ghosts but we enjoyed reading the mysterious stories in the books and journals. We are looking forward to visiting again and possibly trying one of the other suites offered. We definately recommend this Bed & Breakfast to anyone looking for a quiet evening in a beautiful, quaint little town.
outstanding!!.
We stayed for 2 nights in Jan 2010 in the Overlook suite. We had no idea it was so large.....it was essentially a 2 bedroom apartment! We loved the private entrance and the fireplace. It was a short walk downtown to a great meal at Tangled Up In Blue, which we also recommend.
We will be trying out the Jail suite next time around!
Perfect Place.
We stayed in the Cave suite and it was perfect. I love having the option of making my own dinner and I was able to with no problems. I also love that every room has a private entrance, private bath, AND that they bring breakfast to your room. For me, it's not important to sit at breakfast with other guests.
The breakfast wasn't anything fancy; blueberry pancakes, a ham steak, fresh fruit, OJ - small portions but all delicious and enough to leave us happy.
The 'cave' part of the room was awesome - nice bath tub with jets plus a shower that really makes you feel like you're in a cave!
The rest of the room has a nice dining area, a nice living room area, and the bedroom part of it was great too - we really felt like we had plenty of room in this suite. TV complete with VHS and DVD player, books, games, plus it's all in a cute little town with places to eat, things to see, and areas to explore.
Great place and great location - I'd recommend it to anyone in the area.
Only downfall is the Jail Suite only has a full size bed (I really wanted to stay in that room, but the smaller bed turned me away from it.
My own condo in Taylors Falls!. What a great little place to stay in Taylors Falls. My wife and I recently visited to get away and relax...and stay warm. This place was perfect. We stayed in the overlook and had a room for reading, with a wood fireplace, a TV room for movies, a large bathtub for soaking and a small kitchenette. It wasn't glamorous, but very nice, inviting and historic. I would not recommend this room for tall people as the ceiling is low. But, if you are looking to stay away for a while and have a nice little apartment to come back to, this is the place. We read, watched movies, relaxed by the fire...it was great. They even brought breakfast up to us in the morning for us to dine privately. Perfect!
This unique B&B redefines the meaning of "solitary confinement.".
The Scene
With only three accommodations, this B&B offers exceptional privacy in a setting that is historically, culturally and architecturally unique. Located in historic Taylors Falls near the St. Croix River, it's made up of the Schottmuller House (1869) and the former Taylors Falls Jail (1884).
The Details
The picturesque, free-standing Jail Cottage welcomes guests with iron bars on the windows; inside you'll find exposed brick, a wood fireplace and a loft bedroom. The Overlook and The Cave sit one atop the other (respectively) in the Schottmuller House. The former lives up to its name, with dramatic views over the river valley. Its bedroom is the most striking, with pale green walls, crisp white fabrics and beautiful dark wood furnishings. The Cave was once a saloon and features a stone archway that leads to the romantic bath area. A full breakfast is delivered to your door each morning.
