Blast from the past.
Looking for a place to meet for lunch near 35E and 94 I Googled and discovered a gem. A family owned and operated restaurant for 64 years and what a gem. We ordered the hand pounded pork tenderloin sandwiches (hard to find these days) and they were excellent. We told the waitress of our family"s 52 year history of The Diner in Mpls. Separately, both the owners/cooks who are brothers came out to chat with us. Very friendly. We were too content to order the home made pie we had earlier mentioned to the waitress but to our delight we were each sent home with a piece compliments of the owners. I almost felt guilty because the prices are so reasonable. If you don't want to end up with only chain food choices, support local business and help keep them around and preserve our local history.

Easily missed spot in East St. Paul serves inexpensive comfort food..
In Short
Walk into this itsy-bitsy, Cracker Jack box of a place, encrusted with framed black-and-whites, and take a seat in a high-walled booth painted white. Some customers give the impression that they were there the first day it opened in 1946. Old-fashioned comfort food, including soups, roast beef and meatloaf, is the menu's focus, and lunches and dinners come complete with side dishes and dessert. The walleye is perfectly pan-fried, and the roast beef is full of homey goodness.

The BEST!.
Serlin's has GOT to be the best place in town (not to mention the U.S.) to get breakfast. Don't forget that they also have the greatest blueberry pie in Minnesota, and the homey feeling is just what you'll need in the morning.
