Editorial Review for Mickey's Diner – by Whitney Friedlander

In Short
The 24-hour art deco red-and-cream dining car has been around since the 1930s and has lent its image to calendars, postcards and movies. Waitresses are here to get you fed, not to make small talk. Neighborhood regulars to folks stopping in for late-night or early-morning snacks fill the stainless steel and mahogany interior for greasy burgers and fries. Nostalgic diners go for mulligan stew and bean soup made from pre-World War II recipes.

I had the "$200 burger" at Mickey's. I call it the $200 burger because it was worth the 5 hour drive from central ND just to eat it. That's how good it was! Yeah, it's a greasy spoon, but the atmosphere of the place is what really makes it worth the visit. DEFINITELY not for the calorie conscious (I saw Mickey put in a cup of butter for a 3-egg omelet) but it more than makes up for it in taste and portion size. I didn't even mind the 40 minute wait to get seated. I will definitely visit this place again and again each time I visit the cities.

Have wanted to go there for years. Not what I expected!! The waitress was VERY rude. I asked if I could use the restroom. She said no. She must have seen the look on my face, and said did you think I was serious? I nodded, and she said "what a loser." Then continued with a "Jesus Christ!" I was very offended. I also thought that the place was filthy. My coat got full of grease stains from the booth. I had to throw it away. And I thought it was expensive. But one positive thing, the food was good!! Never again.

Pros: Good food

Cons: Waitress sucked! Expensive, and filthy.
