Great food and friendly employees. If you like Thanksgiving Turkey dinner you have it here 365 days of the year. Best real turkey in the country. Great selection of beers. The entire menu if great. Crowded during X Cel events, but the speed of service is still great. Hands on owner. Forget the chain restaurants and head down to West 7th and Chesnut. Great Sunday brunch. A must place to visit!!

Is There Any Service in the Bar...... Now, I'll give him a break. He was tending bar and working the whole bar area, but let's get more help in the bar area. All the tables were full as was the bar...Had a couple of drinks, would have liked more, but couldn't get him to take our order. Had some appetizers and they were spotty. Irish Fries = excellent, bad 'marinara' sauce, Nachos = AWFUL! I can make better in my microwave at home or get better at the dome, Artichoke Dip = marginal, thick and rich - a little much for my taste. I would return for food, but not happy hour. It was disappointing as the paddy'o seems nice, although it was raining the day we were there.

Concerts. We LOVE going to McGoverns for concerts, though it is busy , it is a great time and a great bar! Plan accordingly. I love the fact that they place the music of the headliner at the Xcel, looking forward to Billy Joel, at your bar!

A Great Place to Hang Out ANY TIME. In response to Patrick McGovern's review by daddyo1977:

Patrick McGovern's Pub is a great place to come for events and for your everyday hangout. During events, though happy hour is not available, prices are definitely NOT inflated. "Event" beers are poured as 20 ounce beers instead of the traditional 16 ounce pour, which is something we offer as a little perk on event nights. The increase in price is $.50, which is definitely not an inflated price for 4 ounces more beer than you'd get on a regular basis. Go check out McGovern's Pub any day or any time! See you there!

A friendly neighborhood bar listed on the historical register, with more character than your average shot-and-beer joint.. In Short
Although the facade and decor suggest an Irish connection, McGovern's is just the corner bar for residents of the somewhat upscale Irvine Park area. The bar's seating arrangement is conducive to conversations and often seems alive with chatter. Big-screen TVs air the latest game. A full menu is served until midnight, with an open-faced, hot turkey sandwich reigning as the favorite. There are 22 beers on tap, with an additional selection of 12 bottled brews.

Don't go when anything is going on in the Xcel!. We went for a Happy Hour on a Friday. I asked the waitress what the happy hour special was and she told me that she thought that there wasn't any happy hour b/c of something going on at the Xcel. The event turned out to be a boy band concert. Mcgovern's took advantage of this and charged us "event " prices that were inflated from their everyday prices. I was evident that none of the patrons on the patio were there for the event. She then added a gratuity based on the inflated prices. Wouldn't go if there is anything going on at the Xcel.

Great Lunch. Stopped in for lunch and everything looked delicious! Had a wrap which was great but quickly found out I ordered the wrong item... everyone was eating the hot turkey! Will definitely go back for that and one of their many beers.

User review by sonjeroo. I had an absolutely terrible experience here. The service was terrible. We left after an hour and a half because our food still wasn't ready yet and the server was just a jerk about it. Terrible place.

Remains untainted by large crowds. Patrick McGovern's has the downside of being located in St. Paul and not being on Grand Avenue. If you, or anyone in your crowd of friends wants to go for a quiet drink and watch TV, McGovern's is for you. It is still largely untainted by the large noisy college and young adult crowd merely because its poor location and lack of nearby bars adequate to hop to.

McGovern's food is a bit pricey but is acceptable if you're willing to shell out the dough. The drinks are ok and there is a large selection, especially if you like shots. The service is good and you will rarely ever miss your server.

Go to McGovern's if you want a quiet atmosphere, which can be both its greatest strength and most crippling flaw as well.
