Fair, but not again. Good place for a large group and it is nice that they are local, but the brunch is not worth the money. Food is mediocre. Fish was dry - overcooked. Bacon cold, tough, sausages lacked flavor and were cold. Salads? - I don't like sugary salads. An extra $2.50 for coffee. Service quite good - but where were dirty plates supposed to go? Had to give them to staffers each time to get out of the way. No soup although on the on-line menu -- maybe it was that thing that looked like a thick white sauce but no bowls in sight. If quantity is more important than quality, a good place. Do not plan on going there again. Could have gone to a number of other places and had better food for the same amount of money (or less). Cost including coffee and tip about $20.00.
Szechuan Chicken Salad.
Had the Szechuan Chicken Salad. The underlying chicken pieces have a nice grilled taste, but are coated with something that looks like a combination of jelly & barbeque sauce, and tastes nothing like szechuan. Request that they don't put this on the chicken and then the salad will actually be pretty good. And that sauce does not complement
the salad and other vegetables.
Your wrong..... I don't know what Fab Fern's clubsodagirl went to, but i was not th Fab Fern's I go to. The staff, food and the customers are some of the best in St. Paul/Minneapolis.
The bottom of the hill. By day, lots of older people, okay food. By night very scary. gun totting, street pharmacists . VERY unsafe environment. Sad to have gone so low, fear of being attacked, just a bad idea all around. Beware of Fearful Ferns.
Ferns night out. Ferns has a great atmosphere and a very friendly staff. Their specials change weekly, their walleye is great and their pot-roast is something so delicious, one hears about it in legends. As far as prices go, I cannot understand how people can think this kind of food is expensive, they must be use to fine dinning at Perkins or a lovely night out at Taco Bell with some desert at Denny's. If you want cheap hog fodder, head down to Missouri and pay a visit to Jack in The Box. Ferns is a St. Paul staple, a must see for anyone visiting the cities!
Ferns is Fabulous -- and Fun!. Ferns is a great neighborhood bar and restaurant. The staff is friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is fun and welcoming. They also have the best wine prices in the area, especially during happy hour. I have been frequenting Ferns for many years and I will continue to do so. To people who've had one not so great experience a few years ago, I'd say give it another try.
Staight scoop on Fern's.
Jayna is terrific one off the best waitsaff in the cities. The prices are very reasonable and the food is great. Fern's offers "Early Bird " specials at reduced prices has a good happy hour and a great bar crowd. The restaurant is seperated from the bar for a comfortable dinner experience yet funtions as part of the overall scene.
Anyone that doesn't like Fern's has to have a hidden agenda or a sever personality
disorder.
Don't Bother. Food is mediocre. Prices are too high. And, I found our server JAYNA to be very rude!! Dosen't say much for the staff.
Great Food. Faboulous Ferns ia always a great place to eat. I like the atmosphere and the food is always good. We eat there once and month and always have a great experience. I love the cajun meatloaf.. sooo good and spicy!!
Bad night at Fabulous Ferns. We found Fabulous Ferns not so fabulous. We took our 4 grandparents there for a post theater Christmas get together at 4:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was not busy but we had several very long waits for our waitress to check in on us. My son-in-law ordered a hamburger and fries which came out with rice pilaf instead. Pilaf and hamburger? Interesting. After bringing out all but one dinner the waitress asked if there was anything else we needed and then realized one salmon dinner was missing. She went to check on it and said it had burned in the oven and would take 5 mins to cook and that she'd bring me a bowl of soup if I liked. Several people at our table had fries with their meals which were cold. The salmon dinner never came and 25 mins later everyone had finished eating so I told the waitress to cancel the meal. She said there was nothing she could have done about it but she never came back to our table during that 25 mins to check on us or to explain what was going on. I talked to the manager and he said we wouldn't be charged for the meal that I never got.....thanks.
