St. Paul >University Club Of St Paul
Best Venue in the Twin Cities. This grand old ballroom fit the bill perfectly for our wedding. The acoustics are outstanding, the food great and the high ceilings made the room so airy-which enhanced our special night. Everyone had plenty of room to dance. The service was good and the bartender was a blast.
Loved Summit Ave University Club for our wedding!. Very professional staff, which really made our evening. The food was amazing, it smelled great ,tasted great and looked great...... the hall was nice, and overall the servers were friendly ,the bartenders were helpful, and boy, can they make a drink! =). The chef knew what he was doing , he promised good food and great food we got . Every guest loved the food (who usually likes wedding food? It's so cool that they did such a good job!) I would do another venue there, without thinking about it. Thank you everyone, and we had a wonderful wedding reception!
My sister recently held her wedding with the University Club of Saint Paul, and it was truly a memorable night for everyone. The wedding was held in the downtown location, which was unbelievably beautiful. The ambiance was so romantic, and the building so incredibly charming.
Aside from the beautiful location (and delicious food!), the waitstaff was very attentive and incredibly nice. We had a last minute change to table seating, which they gladly helped us with, and we also had 2 more guests join us who were not originally counted for meals. The staff happily took the additional guests' orders for their meal, and the kitchen put it out flawlessly. We also had a guest with a nut allergy, and the staff took additional care to meet with her and make sure that everything from her salad dressing to her entree to her dessert were free of nuts. Considering there were over 230 people at this wedding, I was very impressed that they took the time to truly serve this individual. The staff was always there to help, but didn't overstep their boundaries and linger around the tables too much.
Although the entire staff was great, my sister and my's personal favorite was Ray. Ray was assigned to the head table and to the table that sat our parents, and was an absolute riot. He must be 85! But he was cracking jokes, danced with my sister, and took pictures with all of us at the end of the night. He truly made my sister's night extra special, and gave us even more of an unforgettable time!
The guests I have talked to had a ball. Many commented on how great the wait staff was, and how accomodating both the wait staff and the hotel staff were (some of the guests stayed in Hotel 340, which is in the same building - highly recommended!).
Overall, it was an amazing night, not just for the bride and groom, but for everyone who attended the wedding. I'm hoping that some of the couples that attended the night hold their wedding at this location, too - I can't wait to come back!!

DON'T use for a large event!!.
My sister got married here in August 2008. The following were the issues:
The food was TERRIBLE. The lettuce was so wilty it looked/tasted like it had been sitting in the sun for hours. Additionally they DRENCHED the soggy lettuce in the dressing. It was so bad most guests opted not to eat their salad at all. The night of the wedding they changed the kind of chicken that was prepared. The punch they said was enough for our 184 guests ran out after the first half hour. We were told that punch could be served in cups my mom had specially ordered for the couple; she put them on the punch table the morning of the wedding. To this day we have no clue what happened to them...they certainly did not get used! They ran out of liquor and the bartender said it was b/c no one ordered more after the club's previous event.
The University Club just contacted my sister and her husband about two weeks ago to say they owe almost $1,300 more, even though they have records stating the entire bill is paid (without any money taken off for all the screw ups). Infact, their statement shows that the Club was supposed to charge the final amount to be $800 and they charged $1,400 ($600 more than they were given permission for) and when it was addressed after my sister looked at her bank statement, they said that they found extra fees after they spoke with my sister on the phone for that final payment.
Please do NOT let anyone you know use this venue!
