Best meal in a long time. This was the best meal I've had in a long time! Great food all around! Service can be slow. You'll be lucky to get a table on a Friday or Saturday unless you have reservations. The bar wasn't too crowded, but was a little loud.
EXCELLENT!. Now, this is not your ordinary restaurant & I wouldn't suggest going here every day. I consider this a "special event" restaurant. It's a fabulous place for that pre-theater dinner, a birthday celebraction, or just a special night on the town. The food is always fantastic, a little pricy, but you're paying for quality and quantity. The serving sizes are generous and the quality of the food is always top notch. I've never had a bad meal here in all the times I've gone. Wait service is excellent, always on top of filling drinks and asking if things are ok.
A 1910 landmark in the Rice Park District that stands for luxury..
In Short
With gilt chandeliers, soaring columns and Gustav Klimt paintings, the lobby is a study in opulence. You'll get mineral water, filled ice buckets and minibars in every room, plus turn-down service. Views of Rice Park can be had from about a third of the rooms. Free Wi-Fi is available in the lobby and meals are served in the clubby St. Paul Grill. The RiverCentre, the Ordway and the Minnesota Science Museum are within walking distance.
Forget St. Paul Grill on a Cold Evening.
Fact: St. Paul Grill - Valet parking is only for hotel guests when an event is taking place downtown, so if it's cold out, and let's face Minnesotan's - that's most of the time, then you and possibly your date will have a long frosty walk to and from the car after spending twenty + minutes looking for street parking or paying $25 for parking garage.
Service: Rush, rush, rush... Not that they are quick to deliver your order, instead they are quick to ask for your plate after slowing down. If you stop eating for a second to relax and chat, they will swarm your table. Gotta keep tables turning over. If you are on a date and wish to chat and slowly enjoy your meal, be prepared to be asked by several different people if you are done and if they can take your plate.
Food: Good food
Renovated and updated. I recently stayed at The Saint Paul Hotel on multiple occasions. I always encountered professional, helpful and friendly service staff. Since the recent renovation, the rooms and the lobby are really beautiful. I would definitely recommend this hotel. The Saint Paul Hotel is a classic place to stay.
Great food - poor service. The food was excellent, but the service had a lot to be desired. Our waiter was very dry, and never around when we needed him. The busboy who scraped our table in between courses was more friendly than our server. Get the filet mignon, and the spinach salad with strawberries. Delicious. We asked for a straw for our water, and were looked at as if we were aliens. We will go back, but be sure to ask for a different server.
Great Lunch. Had lunch with three friends. Made reservations and were immediately seated. Ordered our food, which was served quickly. Great food and good service. The only bad thing that happened was upon asking for ketchup, we never received it. I had the ceaser chicken salad, which was outstanding. Clean greens and the homemade dressing made this salad the best ever.
St Paul's Gem. I ate all my meals here during my last visit to the twin cities (two lunches and two dinners) and never once was disappointed. I could eat all my meals here forever. Service was great and the hostess position is much improved over years past. It will always be packed here so don't show up without a reservation to avoid disappointment.
Love it!.
Can't say enough about this Minnesota icon! From the moment we drove up and were greeted by the bellman to checking out it was fabulous!
Keep up the excellent work!
I will most likely not return. We understand that others have had good experiences here. We did not. I had made reservations well in advance and let them know that it was our anniversary when we made them, however we were seated 45 minutes after our reservation. We had wanted a somewhat quiet table and after waiting over 1/2 hour, we were led to a table directly across from the kitchen entrance! When we requested a different table, there was a very cold response. In addition, after being seated, we received only sporadic attention from our server. For the price, it was a very poor experience.
